Dear Cathleen, Joe & Suzanne, Happy New Year! I hope that all is going well for both of you. As I was reflecting on last year, one of the highlights of our year was adopting Mack so I wanted to send you thanks again for taking care of him and I wanted to thank you for bringing him into our lives. He has truly enriched our lives and he fits beautifully into our family and our lives. Mack is definitely the smartest dog we have ever owned. When we took him to the dermatologist for his allergies, he was able to get out of their crate a number of time so they finally had to tie it shut with a bungee cord and the vet said that if she would have left him in it another couple of minutes, she was fairly confident that he would have had the cord off and the crate open again. He has also mastered hide and seek where I hide his ball in the house and he so proudly brings it back to me in no time at all. We are really fortunate as he is healthy. The only health challenge he has is allergies and like Jeff, his most severe allergies are to dust mites and mold so I do a lot of cleaning to keep them both healthy. He is such a loving dog. When I'm home, you can usually find him where ever I am. If I'm working in the office, he curls up into a ball and falls asleep. If I'm in the kitchen, he is always watching what I'm up to from his vantage point in the great room. He'd be in the kitchen with me if I'd let him. And, when I sit on the floor in the great room, he cuddles up next to me and rests his head on my leg or lap. When I'm not home, he and Jeff are inseparable. In October, we moved up to the Vancouver, Washington area. He loves his new home and his large yard. He has so much fun chasing balls in the yard, walking the neighborhood, and making new friends. Thank you again for the work you both do to give another chance to these dogs to help them find their forever families. You make a difference in the lives of many. Sincerely, Becky and Jeff Hedberg

Hi Miley, No way would I change her name. Isis, a Greek Goddess, suits her well. Besides I have fun with people when I call her!

Thanks so much for a fabulous and funny card. I love it! I'm always busy taking care of my brat little furry girl, Cali! Believe me, she is a rotten child! I honestly think the vet's guess on her age was wrong!! Anyway, I walk her 2-3 times a day and grandma is exhausted. She visits the Army Vets in charge of the US Military working dogs. And I always give her a shower before her visit. She has never missed 1 dose of her Heartworm medicine or her vacinations! Anyway , we still walk because she needs alot of exercise. AND we even walk in the rain!! We hope all of you have a great holiday season. Thanks again for the great card, LC/Cali

Miley, We got your Holiday card. Thanks for thinking of us and remembering Nina! It seems amazing that she’s only been with us for three years. She’s still doing great and does still get motion sickness in the car and boat. It’s not too bad for short trips. Just a lot of slobber. Anything longer that 1 hour though… She’s so smart that when she sees me get my car keys and put on shoes, she runs out the back door to get away. Like most dogs, she does love to stick her snout out the window when she has to be in the car. I’ve seen people behind us turn on their windshield wipers! We’re still running too. In fact, she loves it. I have never tried, but I think she’d leave a bowl of steak to go running with me. I don’t usually take her more than 7 miles but I know she could handle a lot more, especially on a cool and cloudy day. The farthest she’s ever gone is 11 miles and that tired her out pretty well. (Me too). Oh, and this year she got her own room. We had some extra “wasted space” under the stairs so I had it finished out to about the size of a good dog crate. Her bed and blankets are in there and she’s settling in. She’s not too spoiled right? ;) I trust things are going well for you? Did you foster Nina before we adopted her? How long did you know her? I’ve attached some recent photos of her for you too. My daughter likes to put hats on her. I’ll admit to doing the reading glasses one. Take care and happy holidays! -Rick

Hi, Miley: Thank you SOOO much for your holiday greeting and please – we LOVE hearing from you!! Don’t stop!! Dante is doing very well, although sadly (very very long story) we lost his counterpart, Nitro – our 5.5 year old GSD to mesenteric torsion in AprilLLL We were devasted as was Dante – but recently we adopted a female companion from Westside. I also have fostered a GSD for Angels Bark Dog Rescue who I was able to place/adopt to a GREAT home from some people I met at the American Cancer Bark for Life event. Hope you have a very happy and healthy holiday and beyond! Flora and Dante and Deja (and the rest of the menagerie)

Miley, Thanks very much for the holiday well wishes! We really apologize for not following up and sending pictures of Flo and Carley. Both are doing GREAT and getting along very well! We appreciate your help and support - we feel like they've added so much joy to our family! I'm sending pictures (finally) and I'll also forward a video of Flo swimming in the pool this past summer (I think it was 100 degrees that day!) She loves the pool - especially when it's hot! We hope your holidays are fantastic and Happy New Year to you!! All the best, Paul and Sandy Gonzales

Hello, We adopted our Holly (aka Alysse) back in 2010, and we thought you might like to see how she's doing 5 years later! Holly has 2 fursisters - Daisy (the little one who thinks she rules the roost) and Foxy (the two are like 2 bookends, they lie exactly the same way or exactly opposite...so cute!) I've attached a few photos of her...one of her at the beach, one with her 2 fursisters, one with her and her running shirt (she and her sister Foxy runs/jogs with me) and one of her and one of my friend's running buddy (Mini). Holly is doing so well and so happy! Rachel Pacillas

Hey Beth, Just a quick update - our little guy is doing just fine. He's been really good and alot of fun. We took him to an ortho specialist thinking that his slowness in sitting and standing was a leg problem. Turns out his legs are ok but his lower back has a decent amount of arthritis. That explains why he would sometimes get upset when someone would give him a semi-hard back rub - that action triggered the pain. We have him on a low dose pain med for now and will do whatever is needed if he eventually needs surgery. Other than that he's great - running around the house, running to the park on our "walk", going bye-bye in the car,... all of his fave activities. Thanks again for taking such good care of him so we could eventually give him a permanent home - a real success story Dave & Agnes

Hero has taken to Bella well and attached to both of us. Follows me everywhere and sleeps next to Bella always. He still needs a bit of house training. Both are high energy for each other and they go on long walks so that helps. So glad this worked as originally hoped when I first saw him on the website. I am very happy and they are also!!

Gabby
Hi Diana, Gabby is doing great. She is much loved by all -- but especially loved by my 8 year old daughter. She is almost 50-lbs at this point-- I think she is going to be a petite girl :-) Sometimes I think she looks more like a Belgian Malinois....she's got the white chest patch and feet as well as the darker masking on her face and those beautiful gold eyes. such a pretty girl. Gabby had her spay surgery a while ago and she bounced back really quickly from that. Almost too quick! She loves her walks on the trail with Ace and she's got a bunch of trail dog friends she sees almost every day. BTW- She is a super fast runner too- which is pretty amazing for a dog that couldn't walk! Thank you so much for caring for her while she was a baby, and letting us adopt such a great dog. Kind Regards, Barbara and Sydney

Hi Miley, I'm not sure if you remember me but my husband and I adopted Holly (AKA Frieda) in 2011. Holly has been an amazing dog. You had just gotten her shortly before we adopted her so she hadn't been tested with kids but she has been so good growing up with Ronnie. She even loves the snow. Thank you so much for the wonderful match.

Hi! My name is Ellie, though you knew me as "Garbo"... I have been with my forever family for a year now and I wanted to send you an email and say thank you so much for finding me the perfect home! I have been very busy over the last 13 months since I last saw you. Luckily my dad takes lots of pictures so I can share a little with you...

You guys were a great place for getting our dog. Loved the ability to foster Maggie (Hailey) first and Chad Garner who helped us with the adoption was great too.

Hello Cathleen! Samantha is an absolute amazing dog. She is so loving and so funny and extremely well behaved. She has been enjoying sleeping in Kaniah's room at night and helping her navigate the dark hallways if she wakes up. We have found out that she adores playing fetch with her nylabone, and she will bring it to you drop it in your lap and wait patiently until you are ready to throw it for her. She is already doing well with healing on the leash for both of us and we are beginning to let kaniah walk her in the yard with one of us there to watch over. We were worried at first because the first couple days she didnt want to eat anything but her appetite is back in full force now! We are all so happy to have her as part of the family, even as i write this email she is laying at my feet. We have taken your advice and havent gotten her a ball!!!! As soon as she ever holds still long enough to take a good pic ill send you some! Kathryn Dew

Hello, Just wanted to give you an update on Chelsea. She is doing well. I have attached a picture of her chilling with her brothers and sister at the dog park. You can actually see her smiling 😊 she has become more comfortable around people. She's still a bit skittish with loud noises, however that has improved as well. She is learning how to play which is super cute and is quite the walker. She is very loved and very spoiled ☺️ Hope you have a great weekend! ~Andrea

Hi Diana and Tiffany, Kobe aka Loki was neutered yesterday and I am attaching proof for your rescues records Kobe did well with the surgery, no complications. Kobe is doing very well, he just completed his 3 month obedience training with a trainer that I think is the best in New York : ) He is a happy, HEALTHY boy, just LOVING life. At some point, I will probably have a Barium X-ray performed to confirm the status of his Mega E condition. He has not regurged once since coming to me, so that is extremely good Please know Kobe is well loved and cared for....he loves my 'old man' Tucker who is 12. 5 years old and really respectful of his weak backend. Kobe can always be found laying, literally paw on Tuckers body.... Take care and I will continue to send updates as Kobes life evolves

Happy Spring! Just wanted to share a picture of my beloved 2 year old "Edge" (now Boris) one of Emmy's puppies you fostered for Coastal German Shepherd Rescue OC. He brings me such joy. Hi Julie, It’s Laura Rocha! We adopted Mia from you last June and we have been thinking about you and your husband and wanted to share some of Mia’s first year experiences with you!! Of course we believe that she is the perfect dog!! Everyday we feel so blessed to have found her! She has brought so much joy and love to our family! She turned 1 year old on April 5th! Time has flown by and she has had a great year. She has been on vacation with us to Pismo Beach, she has been wine tasting in Santa Barbara, and she loves dog beach in Del Mar! She loves when Ryan and Krystina come home from school and are home - she really does remember them and loves to hang out with them! She is about 55 lbs. and is a great size. She has a beautiful soft coat and loves her bath! She still sleeps in the most quirkiest positions like she did when she was a puppy! She loves to be outside and go for long walks and hikes. She is playful and loving. She loves people and other dogs. I hope all is well with you! If you ever come across another pup that is similar to Mia please let us know. We would eventually like to have another one. She has been the best! Kind Regards, Laura Rocha

Hi Cathleen and Joe, All is going incredibly well with Mack! I cannot believe how good he has been. Someone clearly spent time with him training him in the past as he seems to know most of the commands and is just so eager to please (and test us as I would expect). He loves going on walks and he heals really well. So far, he has been getting along with other dogs and most people (he has growled at a couple men but who among us wouldn't like to do that). He also loves to go on car rides. He settles right in and goes to sleep, waking only when we slow down or get near the destination. This is a great since we go on road trips. And, he is smart. I've started doing scavenge hunts with him and he has picked up on it right away. He also quickly figured out a food puzzle I bought him. Within 5 minutes, he had successfully removed the caps, found, and ate the kibble. Today we bought him a crate... we've been reading up on how we should crate train. Apparently though someone has already crate trained him as he went right in on his own and proceeded to go in and out of his crate all day and had no issue when we tested him by closing the door and leaving the room. Hope you are both doing well! Thanks for taking care of him as long as you did. I know he greatly appreciated it. You could tell by how loyal he was to Joe. I promise that we will take excellent care of him! Becky and Jeff

Wanted to give you ladies an update on Remi; she is doing wonderful and is fitting in super well. While still on the shy side she is getting past that quickly. She gets along fabulously with the kids and is so incredibly smart. She has only had one accident since Wednesday, and it was at the door we use to go out. She has the sit command down and loves treat training (my boys often train with her and they have the sit command down too.) The kids love to throw my couch pillows off the couch and she loves when I don't get them up right away.

Diana, Just wanted to give you a quick update. Dylan has been a great lil boy. Had a smooth car ride home yesterday (only threw up once!) He loves his new big sister Lucia, and is always laying by her side when he's not playing. He slept through the night very well. (We put his pen in our bedroom, and he was great, took him out twice through the night when he became restless and he did his business right away) He already knows where to go potty in the back yard and he lets us know through his body language when need be. He's very intuitive and smart! Can't thank you enough for all of your help. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions / suggestions, etc! We are so happy to have found a beautiful and loving pup to add to our family.

Dear Dennis, Hoping this finds you all super well. Eminem (Simores) continues to delight and thrive. He is completely house trained, and only goes in his crate at night and when we are out of the house - due to occasional chewing. of non-chew toys. He is mellow for a puppy, although he loves walks and dog park visits more than anything. He is very smart, and knows "sit", "down", "stay", (for about a minute), "come", "off" and "no bite". He is about 70 pounds, and growing bigger and stronger every day! (Although he doesn't know this, and still tries to sit in my lap.) He is super friendly with dogs and people, although it is wonderful to start to see his watch-dog behaviors come in. He has started barking when he is suspicious or feels threatened. So far the culprits have been new plants in the back yard, and overturned, rolling plant pots. He loves to go for rides in the car, enjoys licking the cats, and wrestling with the boys. We couldn't ask for a better dog, he is everything we had hoped for and more. He has had all his shots, and we thought it would be a good time to get him neutered. Take good care of yourself. Best regards always,

Hi Beth and Miley, I haven't sent you any updates in a while. We did get Miley's Christmas card. Thank you! Dunkel is doing GREAT. He had an episode last fall with limping and apparently has hyper-extended ligaments in his left front foot. Vet suggested surgery involving pins and a metal plate, but I put him on a diet and kept him from running and severely restricted his movement for a few months. (No more dog park. That was the saddest part as it's his favorite thing.) Ten pounds off of him now & he barely limps. I have worked him back up to his 2 mile evening walk and he isn't showing any ill effects. Yay Dunk!! So funny as no one believes he is deaf. He and I communicate just fine. He is such a special soul. Attached are a few pictures. He is so hard to photograph since he is so black! Two are he and Fiona crashed out in the office while I work. And him in his crate waiting to go to bed. I will have to take some of him on his feet and send:-) Sheree
