Before you gasp in horror, LOL, let me explain... I didn't want a name that ended in "no" as I didn't want a reprimand sounding like his name. Dunkel is "dark" in German and also is term commonly used in German beer names, such as a Dunkel Weiss (Dark Wheat Beer). Mike is a home brewer so there is a tie in. And he has been responding nicely. Attached is a photo taken just a few minutes ago of all 3 of them lounging on the back patio. I am keeping a close eye on him. Considering it has literally only been 25 hours since our first meeting, he is doing very well. He slept all night in his crate. I could hear him jostling around and getting up and turning around, but he never made a peep. No whining, nothing. I will be bringing them in (or at least the 2 that want to come in) once the sun gets to the patio. He has gone into both dog houses. That is great! He and the cat have gone nose to nose twice while he is on his leash. He is extremely interested, so we will take our time with that one. He won't have free roam in the house until I am 100% sure about the cat. I have walked him twice so far. Once last evening and then again this morning. That collar is a God-send. We came across one of the locals walking her 2 little yappy Lhasa mixes and he really wanted to go over to them. Another incident was when we walked by the house where the cottontails gather in the evening. He saw those rabbits and started to lunge. The collar certainly stopped him. We have bunnies darting across in front of us all the time, so he will have to get used to that. He knows when I put the collar on him it means business. He heels pretty well. He just needs a little more work. We are practicing "wait" going through doors and "sit" when I get a chance. Not sure how much he has been worked with since Coastal had him. Any ideas? I have his first vet visit scheduled for Tuesday morning. I will try to get the records transferred on Monday. Once I get the neuter and rabies certificates I will get his license. Thanks! Sheree

Miley, Sonika-- This email is long over due but I wanted to send a few pictures of Jarvis--you know him as Ruegar. He settled in pretty quickly with Lisa and I. Within the first 20 minutes inside the house he marked his territory--the suede chair. We corrected him and that was it---no more "accidents." Jarvis barks when someone knocks on the door and will bark until Lisa and answer. Perfect! He checks our guests out then he just goes about his business. He walks great on a leash now--ignores most dogs but when he sees a squirrel, I have to use all my strength to control him--I am not complaining. He spends most of his time by our side when we are home--otherwise he is chasing squirrels in the back yard. As I said he walks great on a leash and is not really distracted by other dogs, cats or people. However, recently we were on a walk and I stopped to tie my shoe. I was not paying attention when a man was waking toward me, my head was down. Jarvis, gave a warning growl to which the stranger asked, "is he friendly." I responded, "not if you try and sneak up on me." We have continued Jarvis on a raw diet--and dinner time is the other time when he can hardly control himself. I remember when we decided to adopt a GSD and I couldn't imagine how we were going to choose. Like many other people said, he chose us. I am so glad he did. Thanks for all your help in the adoption. All the best. Andre & Lisa
Shadow
Shadow
Kym, We are having a great time! Shadow is a snuggler and has won the hearts of many neighbors, pets and several birds. This is a lap dog shot Chris took w/ her I phone. She has 9 dog friends from just the surrounding 2 blocks. Favorites so far are a pair of older golden-ish rescues she romps with them and loves Waggin he thinks she's fun too. She has an open invite to come play anytime. She spent a few hours on her own yesterday- all went well & she was happy to greet me back. Murphy's mom across the street kept her ears open for any unhappy noises- all quiet. Shadow's 'aunt Molly' and Mocha (rotwhiler) came and took her for a walk. All had a good time and Shadow made more friends. We have several birds who have nests nearby who come up to the living room window ledge and peck on the window. Shadow is thrilled with the live bird show. The windows are just right size for her, she stands at the windows looking out and wags her tail. The birds are not scared they keep coming back. Every morning early hummingbirds cruise outside our bedroom window- Shadow discovered them also. Cool live bird shows!!!

Hello Miley! I wanted to update you real quick. We arrived back in Colorado two nights ago and it was wonderful seeing the dogs play outside and find their spots to nap around the house. I wasn't sure how the dogs would react to the snow but I know for a fact they love it! I am attaching two photos of Athena and Atticus (Hansel & Gretel) enjoying the cool down from the snow. When they start to get familiar with the area, I will send some more pictures! Thank you for all your help. The trip was successful and the dogs are happy! :) Judy Hunziker

Oakley
Hello Kim, Just to say hello and say that Oakley is doing fine, I think he knows now he has a new family and home. He is learning new routines and we are catching on to things I think he learned in the past. My son accidentally did a hand signal and he sat promptly! now we know. Well we are all happy, oh, this boy likes to run!!

...just a bit more about Izzie. She often pins her big -- as in 130lbs. big -- sister down. To date, I haven't been able to get a picture of her staying in one spot. She is a fantastic pup and we owe you all many thanks for bringing her into our lives. Dat

Hi Miley, I know you wanted me to see Cora, but she was unavailable, as I did ask about 4 of your recommendations. I am completely satisfied. I had told my friend, that I was not going to bring home just any GSD. Thank you Thank you ! Beth was the volunteer helping me, along with the transporter, but I did not get her name. Young girl... pleasant. I appreciate the advice and will uphold the Alpha. Do you happen to know what training Cece had? English/German, police, rescue training? I am simply trying to establish what commands she may know already,so any additional information is helpful. Was she raised by the previous owner. ( just wondering how anyone could give up such an incredible dog.) Thanks, Ron

Hi Beth and Miley! I hope you are both doing well! Danny and I are following the successes of Coastal GSR on Facebook every week and are still truly inspired by what you do. Just wanted to update you on Teddy (we are keeping his name!): he is doing extremely well and is getting quite comfortable in our home. He has gained about 2 lbs since we've adopted him 2.5 weeks ago (seems like we've had him longer though!) The scars on his arms and inside his thighs have closed up and are healing nicely. He just got neutered last Tuesday but is recovering very well. Teddy loves walks around our neighborhood - he sticks his nose into every bush and animal hole there is. He is such a lovable guy and has not met a human or dog that he doesn't get along with yet. We are looking forward to taking him to the dog park this weekend - he loves meeting new dog friends! Please pass this update along to Gary - we would love for Teddy's foster dad to know that he is doing well. We are so grateful again for taking Teddy in so that we could adopt him. Thanks ladies and we hope to visit you all in Aliso in the next couple weeks with Teddy. Pictures attached! Dara and Danny

Hi I wanted to share a cute picture of Hickory. He has adjusted beautifully to his new surroundings. He had a chance to meet another dog adopted from your rescue group (Nellie) to play with. Nellie was adopted a few years ago I believe from a similar Petsmart Adoption event. Karen Reader

Hi Michelle. Thanks so much! Things are going very well :) Abeja is growing and she is so cute. We actually did get another puppy from the rescue a wish for animals. She is a shepherd/boxer mix. Abeja and Canela get a long great they act like sisters. I have attached a few pictures so u can see. It so fun watching them play together they love each other. Canela is 2 months older and has all her shots. They are both very spoiled. Abeja is very girly and Canela is more of a tomboy. Its so cute to see their personality. As you can tell I'm in love with the pups. I visit every weekend. Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Abeja. They have both brought so much joy in to our family. She is getting spayed tomorrow I'm nervous because she seems so little. Thanks :)
Ebony
Ebony
Hello, We rescued Ebony, now named Ali, on October 8, 2011, soon after the passing of our first German Shepherd Starr after 14 great years. It took a little time for her to get comfortable with her new home, as expected. As you can see she now fits right in with her new family! Thanks Miley and the rest of the staff at coastal gsr for helping us to provide a forever home for one of your girls

Riley Jensen
Riley Jensen
Hi Miley.... It was great seeing you even though it was brief... Any luck yesterday? Didn't mean to be so rushed, but I had just picked up Riley (aka Jensen) and wanted to get her acquainted with Hannah, bathe her and introduce her to Fiona with the help of Noelle. Thankfully everything went fine. Fiona is the biggest challenge because other dogs get her real excited and she needs to be calm and get better... I have to tell you, I've always been leary of Pit Bulls, but this girl is the easiest, gentlest, sweetest thing ever! I cannot get over how someone would have neglected her and starved her of the most basic necessity of food..... Hope you have a good day today and all the doggies get real clean. Please give Hope and Rex a big hug for me...

Hi Beth, Well you really don’t see Rufus pulling the wagon but you get the idea. I left on my first business trip this week and he and Ginger were great outside all day with a sitter that came into feed once per day. We are getting the jumping thing slowly but surely under control and Ginger is on him too. Have a great day! Debbie

Hey Miley! I just wanted to drop you a line and share a few photos. Stan and I are doing great here! He has learned "Wait, Stay, Down, Go to Bed, Gentle, Go Pee, and Shake", and he already had "Sit and Come" . We are working on "Roll Over and Fetch". He has a little "girl friend" (my friend's dog) who is a very sweet Pitt Bull rescue. We had our first snow over Halloween weekend, and he LOVED it. His favorite part was eating the snow. "Cool! It's like water, but solid!" Hope everyone in the OC is well! ~Arwen Gaddis

Hi Miley! We just brought Lumos [Marigold] back from the groomer, and she is so fluffy and happy, she's bouncing around like a pony. She didn't like having her nails cut, but we will help her to feel comfortable with it. Thanks again for everything. Hope you like the attached photo--such a cute, funny face! Isis
Isis
Hi Miley, Wanted to bring you up to date on Isis. Three training sessions under her belt I now am able to trust her to run free a bit. On the beaches and or mountains of Santa Barbara. When I finish with her training she will go back to Green Valley Lake a dog with a regain in self confidence, no more fear barking for her. She sits, goes down and stays with hand signals. Comes when called and gives lots of kisses and gets belly rubs galore. Her weight is coming back very slowly and I have found out that she is a Belgium Malanoi rather than a German Shepherd. Good for Police work, herding and a high prey drive. She is so cute. Here are some pictures of her in the mountain range behind Santa Barbara that you can share with the volunteers there. A fence is being built as we speak for her at the cabin. Oh yes! It helps that she loves the treats I buy for her. Cottage Cheese, yogurt and tons of liver snaps. Today we are going to work on heeling so that she can go into a group obedience class like the beautiful lady she is.

Galiana
Galiana
Hi Kim, Yes we chose Galiana... I think she chose us too. We did not keep the name. We have named her Raven. She actually didn't really well on the long drive home and better than we expected for her first night. As you can see she is quite comfortable taking a nap in the den on her den pillow. She is sound asleep here. We stopped on our way home and bought half of PetSmart... Bought many great toys and other necessities. We signed up for puppy class and will start in two weeks. She seems to like her new yard and home. More updates to come! Take care, Bennee

Hey Miley! So here are some pictures of Ellie in her new home! She is loving it here and she has bonded to us like glue, it takes some getting used to since the corgi's only love on you when they feel like it, and she is constantly rubbing against you. She loves her brother and sister, andis always wrestling with her brother! She loves sleeping on my side of the bed and in the morning she likes to "sneak" on the bed for some cuddle time. It isn't really sneaking, because she is so big! Ellie also is a creature of comfort. Anywhere there is a blanket, pillow, bed, or something soft you can find her on it.Ellie loves going on hikes around the neighborhood, and she loves getting to sniff all the bushes and run as fast as she can to next one. Overall she is having a great time, and she has been an awesome addition to the family! Thank you so much for introducing us to great dog, and family member! She saysto say hello to her friends at Petopia, and that she misses them, but she loves her new family! Love,The Soule's and Ellie
Lacey
Lacey
Hi Beth, We love her, she is perfect. We really do not understand how anyone could give her up. Aside from the fence jumping thing, she has been an easy dog. We are currently training her. She has the basics, just needs to re-learn them. And I think she gets a little more confident each day. I attached some photos of her. The handsome goof in some of the pics is her brother Enzo. I fostered him and his litter for So Cal. They were saved from an awful pet store that did not take care of them. He loves Lacey too and they run around each evening chasing each other and rough housing. Also wanted to mention that my company matches donations, so expect a check for $300 to arrive next week. I sent it to the PO BOX for OC Coastal chapter. Thanks again for helping unite us with our girl. We are all in love! Maxine

Hi Sanika: We decided to name Sunshine, Leisl. She is doing great and has been doing really well with potty training in our backyard. Here are a couple of pictures of Leisl and our 11 year old shepherd, Heidi up at the park. Leisl follows Heidi everywhere. Is Yorba Linda the closest vet that we could take her to? Just wondered if you had any in the Chino, Chino Hills area. If not, we will take her to Yorba Linda. Thanks, Nicole Burns
