Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

Grond is available ( Updated 10-14-2025 )

Male German Shepherd Dog about 6-9 years old. Gets along with other dogs. Not for homes with kids. Not cat friendly.

Grond is a 6 year old German Shepherd. He was adopted from Coastal GSR when he was a two month old puppy named Ian. His current owner is asking Coastal to help rehome Grond due to changes in his life.

Grond is a BIG BOY. He is about 90 lbs. He was over 100 lbs but he lost some weight and it wouldn't hurt for him to lose a few more pounds.

When you initially meet Grond, he can be guarded, but he warms up quickly once he knows you’ll give him lots of back rubs, massages and head pets.

Per his soon to be ex owner, he is up to date with all of his shots and has no health issues. His teeth look good and he is a healthy boy overall.

Grond does not realize how large he is and likes to lean in on you, and rub up against your leg for more pets and massages. He should not be around small children since he could knock them over, unintentionally.

He is currently lives with two small dogs and does fine with them. Per the current owner, he is not aggressive and is fine with other dogs and people. He just needs proper introductions.
He is prey driven and will chase squirrels, possums, birds, and probably cats but he’s too slow to catch them. He prefers to be indoors but will stay outdoors.

Grond is calm and mellow. He likes to go on walks but will not chase a ball. He is not reactive when he sees other dogs and ignores them for the most part. More walks are just the prescription he needs to lose those extra pounds.

Grond does not jump or climb on things. He is not crate trained but is potty trained. He sleeps on his doggie bed and might test trying to get on the couch. He listens to commands such as sit, come, and paw/shake hands.

He is large, so folks need to be mindful of his size. He does not realize he is big and could knock things over, unintentionally. Overall, Grond is a big sweet lover in the prime of his life looking for a new home and some attention.

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
