Coastal Remembers Our Own

Coastal Remembers

While we hope to find homes for all the dogs who come into our care, unfortunately sometimes we fail. No matter the reason, these losses are hard to bear, but in the end seem to strengthen our commitment to help as many dogs as we can. This memorial page is a tribute to the Orphans who were lucky enough to come into our care, but failed to find their forever families. Unlike the ones left behind in the shelters, these dogs did not die alone and unloved. Earning wings instead of families, these dogs touched our hearts and will be remembered by the volunteers who loved them. We tried to help them as best we could and loved them enough to find the strength to let them go when their time came. In the end, Coastal was their family and they at least knew love and compassion in their final days. To all of our Angels you were loved and you are missed. Rest In Peace!

This page and our mission to find homes for other abandoned dogs is dedicated to the memory of all the dogs left behind that died in the shelters. The poor souls who were never even given a second chance!

Achilles

Achilles
Achilles is a super sweet boy who gets along with other large dogs and loves people. When first rescued, he displayed mobility issues and has since lost the use of his back legs. He's seen the vet and a neurologist. Based on his age and condition, there is nothing that can be done for him surgically, so we are making him as comfortable as possible with meds, supplements, and a wheelchair.

This handsome boy absolutely loves his walks and can race around in his wheelchair like no one's business! His front legs are fine, it's just his back that don't want to cooperate.

If you're looking for a super sweet and handsome GSD who will adore you, Achilles is your boy.

Angel

Apollo

Apollo
Yes, he's a senior. He's a mix and his ears don't stand up. His muzzle is white and his teeth aren't. His leg was broken- before his rescue- and the bones healed incorrectly while he was living on the streets, which makes his stride a little funky. His name is Apollo and he's the most amazing, loving, affectionate boy you haven't yet adopted!

He's, hands down, the sweetest dog on the planet. He's a super happy boy who adores people and walks. He's soaking up every minute of life and making the most of it. He gets a kick out of toys. He gets to pick out different toys, every day, from the bin. Sometimes it takes him 5 seconds to decide and sometimes it takes 5 minutes. Picking a toy is serious business. His new favorite has been a plastic set of McDonald's fries. He's not a health nut. He is beautiful, inside and out, and would make you the happiest person alive if you adopted him.

Apollo is a spunky, lovable, sweet, older guy. He loves getting attention from his people and will lay by your side if you're doling out the affection. Apollo is dominant and gets along best with submissive female dogs. He loves his walks and going for a romp around the backyard, playing with his toys and rolling around on the grass. He bonds quickly with his handler, is potty trained, good in the house, loves a car ride and would be the happiest dog on the planet if you made him part of your family.

Arco

Arco
Our three "A puppies" were recently rescued from the shelter when their time was up. Please check back shortly for more information and photos!

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

Ariel

Ariel
Ariel came to us from a high kill animal shelter. We received a plea that Ariel had 30 minutes and then would be euthanized. We truly did not have the space or the funds to take her in, but we couldn't let her life go to waste. We rescued her in the nick of time and she is grateful to be here! Ariel has a smile for all and gets along great with other dogs. She would be an easy dog to add to your household!

After time with us, Ariel is a special girl - she is happy, a healthy weight although she does struggle with a mysterious kidney issue and high blood pressure. She will likely remain on medication throughout her life but this doesn't slow her down (& the medications are inexpensive). We know it will take a special family to take her in but she is such a joyful character. She even does great with kitties!

Bailey

Bailey
Bailey is a sweet, gentle 6 year old German Shepherd mix who ended up at a high kill shelter with his brother, Badger. Bailey is great with other dogs, walks well on the leash, and is happiest when he has a person to cuddle up with. Bailey and his brother were very dependent on one another when they were at the shelter, but now that they have been in a loving environment for several weeks, they are happy and independent and can be adopted to separate homes.

Bailey

Bailey
Bailey will make your time spent at home productive and fun. She’ll give you a reason to stop eating (she needs someone to throw her ball or point the hose so that she can eat the water stream) and an excuse to take a nice long walk (while keeping physical distance and, better still, toning up your whole body so that when you go back to work no one will believe you didn’t have some work done while they were all eating fries and chocolate).

Around 8 years old now, this gorgeous girl was found living in a rural field and joined the Coastal family when no owners came for her. She's since been obedience trained, adores water fights, can't think of anything better than a car ride, and enjoys her toys. She doesn't love going to the vet, will take over if not given proper structure and boundaries, but is affectionate, smart and learns quickly with a strong handler.

Bailey has been through professional obedience training, knows all the tricks, walks well on a leash, and absolutely lives for car rides. She responds fantastically to leadership and is going to make an awesome companion for someone with GSD experience.

Baja

Baja
Relieved to have reached these puppies before they were given away to who knows, we are confident that they have a solid start. They are happy, mostly healthy (wormy but we are fixing that!) and very engaged with people and other dogs.

Their mom is a mere baby herself, perhaps only 9 months. Their father is a purebred shepherd as well.

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

Around 3-5 years old, this cutie was with another rescue. Sadly, they were closing their doors, so we took Betsy into the Coastal family and have found her to be somewhat shy at first, but very sweet and responsive.

Billie

Billie

Billie was the 15 year old relinquished at Baldwin Park for being too old. The poor thing was crying her heart out in the shelter. I was able to convince my husband to foster her. She came to me skin & bones.
It took her 3 days to wag her tail at me. After that she started having a runny nose & cough . Took her to the vet who upon physical exam realized that other then pneumonia, she had a big mass in her abdomen, Confirmed by ultrasound & was partially compressing her intestines. My job for a few days was to give her antibiotics & then feed her. I hand fed the little princess multiple small meals throughout the day. With trial & error I discovered that she loved raw veggies more then raw meat!

She did well for a few days. Enjoyed her walks with my dogs. Finally I was able to hear her cute bark even. Unfortunately the last 2 days before I put her to sleep she couldn't keep any food in. Her abdomen was huge(full of fluids). That is when I made the decision to put our little angel to sleep. It was very tough for us.

In the few days with us she was able to tame my 14 year old Whiskey (who can be a real grouch!). She was too sweet! I was so happy when she started going up the stairs to sleep with us in the bedroom!

In a way I was glad she was relinquished because obviously she wasn't well taken care of. She had half eaten ears . She looked like she had puppies in her life. Her favorite spot was to sleep in her bed in the kitchen. We miss her so much! I just did not want her to be forgotten this is why I wanted her in the tribute. She passed away peacefully in my arms. She was so attached to me that there was no way I would leave her.

We were honored to have had her in our lives.

R.I.P Billie , we love you.

Bodie

Bodie
Bodie grew up with a senior dog and a young child. He didn't seem to have had a lot of structure, which created a good amount of anxiety in him. He's so smart, we began training and he caught on incredibly quickly! He went from dragging his old owner around on the leash to walking on a loose leash in a matter of one day. He used to go ballistic when he saw bicycles or skateboards and now, after training, understands not to focus on them and to let them pass. Being 100 pounds, good leash manners are important!

His anxiety was another issue. Before coming into the rescue, he'd begun to chase his tail and even eat the tip. He was turned in by his previous owner with some meds and a cone, so we took him to our vet for an exam. He was given some different meds, but even they weren't curbing that behavior and every time he was alone he'd start circling. Training, the meds, a cone, and bandages didn't stop this behavior, so the only choice was to amputate his tail. It had become a source of nerve damage and pain and amputation would end all of that. He does still circle when anxious, but he no longer has a tail on which to chew.

Bodie can be fearful sometimes, but he's a great dog who just needs a home that understands GSDs. He loves going for walks around the neighborhood, is good in the house, crate trained, potty trained, and ready to become part of your family!

This handsome XL boy is happiest when he’s getting lots of exercise. He’s not happy just hanging out inside and would do best with an active adopter who has GSD experience.

Boe

Boe
Although a senior, Boe is very much young at heart as seen on the video link below. Boe is a wise and gentle boy. He would enjoy a quiet home with consistency. Potential adopters should know he has a condition referred to as Mega-E which requires minimal care (canned food or pre-moistened food, fed on raised feeder) and low cost medication.

Due to the Mega-E, Boe enjoys short walks and his favorite game is to play hide and seek with his tennis ball. Please consider giving this sweet soul a spot in your home and heart. If you have any questions regarding Boe, you can contact his foster alex.coastalgsr@gmail.com

Bree

Bree
If you are looking for a gentle, quiet, petite girl, Bree just might fit the bill. She is content to lay by your side or go for leisurely walks. Bree is very low maintenance and does fine with other dogs. We do think she's mostly deaf but that doesn't affect her general happy personality.

Bree is housebroken, great on a leash and doesn't get on the furniture. She has a bit of arthritis and is on anti inflammatories. She would be a perfect companion for someone who wants a low energy, easy going dog.

Surprisingly, we have found that she is not good with cats and will gather up all her energy to chase them.

Brute

Brute
Brute is a unique shepherd mix as he is built like a Tonka truck made of steel. He adores people. We are glad Brute joined the Coastal clan and look forward to his happily ever after!

Buddy

Buddy
Buddy was picked up as a stray by animal control in central California. We have a feeling he came from a home that, only a couple of weeks later, had 28 dogs confiscated from the property. He, Jet, and Lily all look to be related and have the same temperament and conformation. Buddy is great with dogs, but needs more work socializing with people. (When you have 28 dogs in your home, you don't tend to have visitors, so he's probably only ever known one person prior to landing at the shelter.)

Around 2 years old, Buddy is now great with the volunteers he knows, but can be scared meeting new people. The more we socialize him, the better he does, he's easy on a leash, knows basic commands, and adores a belly rub. We know the right person is going to meet him, fall in love, make him part of the family, and help him through the changes until he's a confident boy.

Calliope

Calliope
Our "C litter" puppies were rescued from a backyard breeder in the Inland Empire. The puppies, and their parents, were living in extreme filth. The parents were supposed to be purebred white German Shepherds but with a backyard breeder, one never knows. The puppies were born at the end of December and are between 2-3 months old.
Calliope, also known as Posey, is the smallest of the puppies and weighs about 12 pounds. She is also the quietest and most laid back of the three. She will be some lucky adopter's ultimate cuddle buddy.

Captain

Captain

Carly

Carly
We rescued Carly’s mother with her 3 puppies when they were about 2 weeks old. The pups eyes were not even open yet. They had a 4th sibling that was given away prior to us rescuing them. Carly was significantly smaller than her siblings and was also missing a toe on her left hind foot. This probably happened when she was born as she had a scab where the toe should have been. It didn't affect her mobility then or now.

Carly continued to fall behind her siblings when they began weaning and she was diagnosed with Mega-esophagus. She quickly fell behind her already larger siblings due to not being able to keep her food down. With no other option, the vet inserted a stomach tube to give her much needed nutrients and also to give her esophagus a rest.

The feeding tube combined with oral medications and upright feeding did the trick and Carly started to get back on track. Once she was eating well by mouth her feeding tube was removed.

A year later...

Carly is a young, dog friendly, people friendly, potty trained, crate trained, beautiful GSD and still available for adoption. We know!

She is a typical German Shepherd puppy who thrives with structure and exercise. A feeding chair will be provided with Carly's adoption, as she has Mega E. Oh, did we mention that? She has Mega E, but doesn't mind one bit eating out of her Bailey Chair and, in all other ways, is your normal everyday pup. She is no longer on any medications and just eats while sitting in her throne. 👑

Champ

Champ
Dogs like Champ are the reason we do what we do as rescuers. Champ was dropped off unceremoniously by his owners after 8 years of loyalty. Thankfully the shelter notified us of his plight and we were able to step in. Champ is a simple soul who doesn't ask for much other than a warm bed, good food and affection.

Chase

Chase
Chase is a special boy around 7 years old who deserved to be saved from the horrible fate that befalls many shelter animals. In bad shape when he was rescued, his foster family brought him into their home to socialize him, groom him and allow him to recover from all Chase had been through in his unknown past. Looking at his pictures now, you'd never know he was most likely a neglected backyard dog.

His foster family has taught him how to climb stairs, get in and out of a vehicle and Chase is also learning how to walk well on a leash but this should be reinforced by his new family. Chase appears to have moderate hip dysplasia so he is given daily arthritis medicine. Glucosamine and fish oil capsules may improve this condition as well. A good diet and exercise has already made a world of difference. Despite his weak hips, Chase loves to run and play!

Chase sleeps comfortably in his crate at night and is housebroken. Chase is food aggressive with other dogs so it would be best to separate during feeding time. Young children or rowdy dogs may upset Chase if they jump on his back so a household without either may be better suited for him. He is truly a loving and friendly dog who just wants food and hugs and a soft warm bed!

Chelsea

Chief

Chief
Chief is a mellow, confident dog and very easy to take care of. He is housebroken and will let you know when he wants to go out. He is great being alone in the house and quiet. He sleeps through the night and loves to lay on his doggy bed. Chief enjoys playing with toys, chase tennis balls, and romp around in the grass. He would be great with a family that has older children. He may not tolerate younger children poking or falling over him. He's had surgery in one hip and will not need surgery on the other one fortunately. He would be ok as an only dog or with a quiet submissive female, other dogs might to hyper towards him. He is very loyal to his people and takes direction well. He is great when guests come to house and welcomes them with a tail wag. He walks well on a leash and enjoys his daily walks in the park. Overall Chief is a happy guy that loves to be petted and wants to bury his head in your lap to make sure he is getting loved to the fullest extent.

Clover

Clover
Everyone who meets Clover has remarked on her happy and loving nature. Clover was hit by a car and left on the side of the road. She had a broken femur and was in pretty bad shape, but was so sweet that the shelter reached out to find her a rescue. Once we got her to our vet, we found out her injuries were more severe than originally expected. In addition to the broken leg, she also suffered a spinal injury with significant cord swelling. Had this been treated at the onset, her condition might have been better, but it has caused her to lose the mobility in her hind end. Knowing dogs can recover from these types of injuries, we elected to give her time to heal rather than euthanize her. Her femur fracture was repaired and has healed.

While Clover still cannot walk, she seems to slowly be making progress. She has regained movement in her legs, has recently started moving her tail, and can even stand for short periods of time. Recovery from a spinal injury does not occur overnight and we want to give Clover a chance. We know she would benefit from intense physical therapy to teach her muscles how to work again. We have found California Animal Rehabilitation, a rehab facility in Los Angeles that can give Clover this level of rehab and Care. Unfortunately, even with a substantial discount it is still very costly for the extensive rehab that Clover requires.

Over the past few months of therapy at C.A.R.E., Clover has made slow, but steady progress. She enjoys all her physical therapy and treatments and works very hard. Even in her condition, she is still very enthusiastic and makes the most of her life. She loves attention and will be as active as she is allowed to be. She loves to play with toys, chew on antlers or kongs and loves to tool around in her wheels. Even if she doesn't regain full use of her hind legs, she still has a good quality of life and is not hard to manage.

Clyde

Clyde
Clyde is a "pocket shepherd" who is about 8-10 yrs, likes other dogs and loves being with his people. He's a big fan of walks around the neighborhood or just hanging out at the house... as long as he gets to love someone, that's when he's happiest.

Cole

Cole
Everyone who meets Cole is astonished that he hasn't been adopted yet. He's charming, soft barken, friendly with people, friendly with other dogs, easier than easy on a leash, good in the house, potty trained, crate trained, and very striking. He's an adult dog who doesn't require too much exercise, won't eat your shoes, won't tear down your drapes, won't turn your sofa into a pile of toothpicks, and will be happy to lay by your feet as you feed your social media habit.

So why do we still have him? He wants to protect you. He'll protect everyone within the home from people he doesn't think should be in the home. He's not Cujo. His head won't spin and explode at the tippy top while he foams at the mouth and barks like a lunatic. No, he's classy about it. He just doesn't understand why you'd allow these burglars into the house when it's clear they want to harm you and steal his biscuits. This is an easy fix, though. You adopt him and start working his basic obedience. You create a relationship with him that includes structure and shows him leadership. He, without much effort, will form a relationship with you that's healthy, as he sees you as the leader and starts to understand what's expected of him. When you have people coming over, initially, you keep him on a leash or crate him. You set it up so that he can't make a bad decision. He's a dog and dogs have been known to make a bad decision or thirty. The more you work with him, the more you'll see those issues disappear. Cole is incredibly smart and just needs someone to show him what's expected of him in your home. 1, 2, 3, happy family!

Colton

Colton
You won't meet a more loyal love bug than Colton. He was taken to the shelter by a couple who said that he wasn't theirs - that they'd found him. When they started to leave, Colton cried and tried to follow them to go back home. It was obvious this handsome boy had some mobility issues, which is likely why he was dumped, but that hasn't affected his spirit one bit. He's living in a great foster home with other dogs, cats and kids and loves all of them. He especially loves his foster dad, whom he follows everywhere.

Colton does have arthritis in his spine and will need a home that understands his needs. (He'd do best in a single story home.) This big boy is potty trained and an all around gem, just waiting for his forever family to come calling.

Daggit

Daggit
Daggit is a handsome, gentle sweetheart who loves nothing better than to snuggle with his owner. He's housebroken, walks well on a leash, and will sit on command. He's calm and quiet, although he will bark at men wearing caps (especially if they represent sports teams of which he's not a fan). He gets along well with other big dogs and adults, and would love to be the companion to a retired person who can spend a lot of time with him.

Daggit's previous owner lost her home and he's been staying with a foster mom and her pack of GSDs since August of 2017. Unfortunately, the foster mom is not able to keep him after May of 2018. Daggit has an autoimmune disorder that affects his facial skin, but this is kept controlled with one steroid pill taken every other day. His foster mom wants him to be able to live out his golden years in a loving home, so she is offering to pay for his medication, as well as part of his adoption fee, if the right home can be found. Daggit will shower you with kisses and affection and all he asks from you in return is your love.

Denver

Denver
Denver, who was fairly new to us and had been battling a very bad infection, died yesterday while at Dr. Wheaton's. He was being treated for pneumonia and thought to have an underlying immune related issue. He was getting the best care possible and just couldn't pull through. For those of you that met Denver, you know that he was a big (although skinny) teddy bear. Solid black and a complete love bug. Dr. Wheaton's staff fell in love with him as well. We are all very sad to lose Denver.

Dexter

Dexter
Dexter didn't lead a cushy life before finding Coastal. We don't know exactly what he's been through, but we do know that he's a sweet boy who has learned to trust again. After a short while in your company, he starts to open up and relax, flashing his million dollar smile and leaning against your side. There's nothing this handsome boy loves more than to roll around in the grass, only stopping to nudge you for belly rubs.

We think Dexter would be happiest as an only dog for now, but we will see if he can be socialized as he spends more time with us and his trainers.

Dr Pepper

Dr Pepper
Doc was rescued by Coastal not really knowing what his issues were. Doc is very weak in his hind end, he's been seen by one of our doctors and diagnosed with a neurological condition. Potentially he has degenerative myelopathy which means he will slowly lose the use of his hind end. At this point, he has no clue that his back legs don't always want to cooperate! He can get around his foster home with no problem although its a little unorthodox.
We are raising the funds to buy Doc a wheelchair so that he can go for walks - he doesn't need the wheelchair in the house but to go for walks, it will be really helpful.

We know that Doc isn't for everyone but his sheer will to live life to the fullest will touch some family much like he touched the volunteers at Coastal who were determined to save his life.

Update 4/12/10:
We've added a photo of the Doctor with his new wheels! He is learning how to use them and go for walks. Its definitely a process because he is using different muscles and he gets pooped easily. Doc is so content to hang next to his foster mom - he is a sweet, quiet dog with such confidence - he will let you know if there are people out on the street OR if other dogs in the house are getting out of line - he's somewhat of a hall monitor. The doctor is a wonderful gem of a guy. We love him!

Duke

Duke
Meet Duke, a middle aged ball hog! We think he is about 5 years old. He has a lot of energy when playing ball, he lives for it! Duke does awesome with other dogs, big and small (his foster mom has three). As his foster mom says, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body so we think he'd be fine with other animals, i.e., cats, as well.

Duke has a wonderful appetite, walks well on a leash and LOVES a car ride. Duke is also housetrained so how much more perfect can you get? Duke's eyesight is diminished and we are having that checked out with a vet but that still doesn't stop him from living life to the fullest and still being able to catch a ball. He loves to cuddle, and be pampered.

Eleanor

Eleanor
Eleanor is a beautiful 2 month old, all black German Shepherd puppy. She and her six siblings were left at a shelter because the backyard breeder had too many puppies and exceeded his limit. One of the litter tested positive for Parvo but Coastal rushed them all to a vet for preventative treatment. They were released after a week to foster homes. Eleanor and her siblings are going to be full sized (~60-70 pounds) GSD.

Flynn

Flynn
If you met Flynn, you'd fall in love Flynn. When you first meet, he won't be in your face, licking you until you lose a layer of epidermis, cuddling you like he's known you forever. Flynn isn't in your face. He's more reserved and regal. He'll slowly become more interested in you and slowly start closing in on your personal space. He'll lean in, sort of asking for pets, but not begging, because that's beneath him. He'll lean in and then, when you pet him, he loses his mind and let's his whole charade fall into a million tiny pieces as he rolls over and asks for belly rubs, while still remaining classy.

This handsome GSD, around 7-8 years old, has had obedience training (he knows sit, stay, down, come, shake, paw, roll over, crawl, watch me, go to your bed, get your ball, and then some), is crate trained, walks well on a leash, is very quick to catch on to new things, lived with children (he needs a home with kids who are 10 or older), is good in the house, potty trained, knows how to use a dog door, and is going to make someone with GSD experience very, very happy to call him their own! While he can be around other dogs and not act up, he needs to be the only dog in the home.

Fritzi
Even though it is clear that Fritzi has not been the beneficiary of much kindness in her short life, she herself is a gentle, quiet soul. She stands calmly for petting and does great with small kids. Abandoned dogs are so resilient, we know it is just a short matter of time before Fritzi starts to loosen up and let love in.

Fritzi is in boarding and we know that even a short term foster home will help her pysche. Could that be you?

Garth

Garth
What a cute boy! And friendly to boot. Garth is about 4 years old; great age to join a family looking for dog who is no longer a 'teenager.' So far, his kennel managers report he is great with other dogs and would probably do just fine with kids, too.
He is independent and can amuse himself. He likes activity around him so it's not recommended that he be left alone all day in a yard or house.

Gemma

Gemma
Gemma, probably 4 - 5 years old, has such a quiet, unassuming personality. We don't know if she's been allowed inside before. On her first night in a foster home, she disappeared into the yard, found later curled in a ball on wet concrete in a cold rain. Her foster mom coaxed her inside for the night and she quickly understood that being inside was mucho preferred over banished to the yard.

Gemma has not had any accidents in the house, gets along with all the dogs in her foster home (from pups to senior) and prefers to be under the table near the humans but she isn't clingy. Gemma is perfect. Not to mention beautiful with her silver, black & tan overcoat!

Gia

Gia
Gia, Gia, Gia... With her stunning beauty and physique we are still debating if she is part deer or tiger or just a beautifully original looking dog. She weighs about 45 pounds and should stay the compact size she is.

All of that aside, our Gia is a work in progress. She adores all dogs of any size. It took her a while to feel the same way about her human living mates. She is extremely shy and will do best in a home with someone who works from home, she's more confident with company! Gia finds comfort in her crate and is house broken. She is VERY affectionate once she gains trust and is a very sweet and loving girl. Also loves her belly and chest rubbed!

Gia will do best in a home with other dogs or dog. It would be great for her to have someone who works from home, is very patient and has a calm demeanor. I believe with proper training and guidance she will gain much needed confidence. I also think she could become a champion in agility as she is super quick and outruns every dog during ball time.

Gigi
Gigi came to us in deplorable condition. She was covered in fleas and ticks and had an eye and skin infection to boot. Thankfully we found a short term foster home for her and she has recovered from the initial neglect that she came in with. Gigi is feeling better and is ready to be adopted! We believe she is around 10 years old, although she has the love for life of a much younger dog! We think Gigi would be best in a home without other animals as she continues to heal. She doesn't ask for much and we think this senior deserves the best in her golden years.

Gilda’s trust must be earned, and once accomplished, her gentle but firm nose regally requests you give her ear and belly rubs. Gilda is a gorgeous, housebroken and active girl who would make an awesome jogging partner or hiking companion!

This athletic girl is somewhat picky in making her dog friends and seems to prefer males of her size or bigger!
Your yard must be dog-proof as Gilda looks with disdain at normal enclosures; a canine Olympian who can and will scale a typical 6’ or 7’ fence with ease.

Her stunning face and long graceful neck remind us of Audrey Hepburn and like Audrey she prefers a home without children.
Gilda enjoys chasing little furry things, so little dogs and cats should be avoided.

Goose

Goose
If you have ever met a dog that is so grateful for being rescued, you know the look in their eyes that just says "thanks"! This pretty much sums up our dude Goose. Goose has not had an easy life. I don't think a meal ever came easy for him. I'm not sure if he was ever bathed or brushed. The fleas had pretty much set up camp in Goose's fur and had no reason to leave. The fly strike on his ears tell of years of being in filth and flies eating away at the flesh on his ears.

Goose came to us after a good Samaritan picked him up on a foggy morning in Los Angeles. She wasn't sure what she saw staggering over to the guard shack where she worked, but she knew he needed help. Goose was skin and bones, dehydrated and exhausted. This good Samaritan took him in, bathed him and gave him a warm bed. She was determined to get him off of the streets that had become his home. She asked around and found no one who claimed Goose, although heard stories that perhaps Goose had been tossed out of a car several weeks earlier by owners who no longer wanted him. Whatever the reason may be, we will never know. All we know, is that we are sure we can show him what the good life looks like and assure him that the streets will never be his home again.

Goose is probably 3-5 years old and is slowly gaining weight and will be back to where he should be in no time. He loves other dogs and gets along nicely with all. Goose is ready to find his forever home with someone who will love and cherish him and never throw him out on the street like garbage.

Graciela

Graciela
Graciela was rescued just in the nick of time. She had been found as a stray in a very rural area of San Bernardino and no owner came looking for her. After 5 days at the shelter, her time was up. Her days were numbered. We simply could not let her die in a cold room at a county shelter. Knowing that we have many seniors needing homes and knowing that it takes a long time to find caring adopters willing to take in the seniors....we posted on Graciela on our front page hoping to find an adopter who could adopt straight from the shelter. We didn't find an adopter, but we found the next best thing! We found a generous sponsor who wanted to donate for Graciela's rescue and boarding fees until a foster or adoptive home can be found!

We got to make the exciting phone call to the shelter to let them know that Graciela would be saved! Since arriving at the rescue, we have been lucky to get to know Graciela. She is eloquent and refined...a very regal lady! She gets along with all and doesn't mind sharing her space with a roommate (Greta..also a senior gal).

Graciela is easy going and asks for very little. She would be a very easy gal to add to your family! She is bright and smart--a quick study with an endearing cock of the head to let you know she is listening.

Update from "Ella's" foster family 6/24/11:
Graciella's name has been shortened to Ella which she readily responds to! Ella is dead on housebroken, she has no interest in taking off even when a gate could be left open - you merely call her name and she wheels around to see what you want. She ADORES her foster dad and greets him affectionately when he comes home from work. Ella loves beauty treatments - she adores brushing and if you stop, she puts a paw up to encourage you to "keep it coming". She lives in a 2 story house w/the bedrooms upstairs - she prefers to sleep on her dog bed downstairs and delights in meeting her family every morning. She rarely barks but she does occasionally carry on a conversation (like many shepherds do). This is an amazing girl. She LOVES LOVES her evening walks and if you are looking for a steady eddy gal to keep you company, look no furher than Ella.

Meet GRETA! Greta is a mature gal and gets along nicely with other animals. In fact, she's passed the small dog and cat test! Greta's favorite things in life are lounging in the sun and taking a leisurely stroll. Greta would be perfect for someone looking for a mellow, low key companion. She doesn't ask for much and would love nothing more than a warm bed and someone to love her. She'd gladly return the favor!

Hank

Hank
This is the face of a dog who will love you more than biscuits. This face will bring you balls to throw, because he knows it's your favorite thing. Well, he might bring you balls. He might not. He might know that you love him so much, you want him to hold all three balls in his mouth and experience bliss/ball nirvana. But, he might bring you balls. He probably will bring you balls, because he knows you adopted him and he owes his new life to you. He'll lean in for a cuddle, give you a wink, and let you know you're even better than balls. 😁

This is really unbelievable, but we've had Hank since November of 2014. He wasn't even a year old when we rescued him from the San Bernardino City Shelter... he's grown into those ears of his and turned into a gorgeous adult dog.

Around 7 years old, Hank is not only gorgeous, but he also has a very playful personality and knows how to turn on the charm. He loves his people, is obedience trained, has a huge food and ball drive, and is as smart as a whip, but not a huge fan of strangers. Hank is seeking an energetic home that knows how to handle working dogs. He needs a home that can provide structure, boundaries, and has working breed or dominant dog experience, but he responds very well to leadership and is one of the sweetest boys you will ever meet!

Hans

Hans
Hans is a gorgeous, sweet boy whom we rescued from the OC Shelter. His time was up and, apparently, no one was looking to adopt a friendly, sweet, mellow, soft, handsome GSD who is crate trained, easy on a leash, and potty trained. Hans is a little older, but his personality makes you forget all about that. Even 5 minutes spent with him will convince you that age is just a number and that older dogs are amazing and deserve a chance. ❤

Around 6-7 years old, Hans does move a little slower and has some mobility issues that are handled with medication. He's no longer in pain and is going to make someone a fantastic best friend and very happy.

Holly and her 7 week old babies were turned into a high kill shelter by their uncaring owners. When their time ran out, we were asked to save them. We were lucky to find foster families for the pups so we were able to save not only Holly but her babies too.

Now 8 weeks old, these adorable pups are ready for families of their own. They are social and sweet and love to play with toys. Typical puppies, they are active and need love and guidance. They will be a wonderful addition an active family looking for years of love. We are currently accepting applications for them.

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

Unfortunately, these adorable 12 week old Shepherd mix pups never found their happy ending, having succumbed to the Distemper virus they contracted in the shelter. We are sorry we weren't able to save you.

Rest in Peace little ones.

Harvey

Harvey
Just another "stray" no one cared enough to look for. The shelter is doing the best they can to keep Harvey comfortable but he is in a lot of pain and is severely depressed. You just want to give him a hug to try and cheer him up. He's the sweetest dog you could ever meet and a good sized boy. He would make the best, most loyal family member and deserves to live out his life with a loving family.

Harvey has a fractured right tibia and may require surgery. He needs immediate medical care. We are hoping more damage is not occurring while he waits for a chance at being rescued. Harvey arrived at the East Valley Animal Shelter after being hit by a car in a busy intersection.

The medical staff and volunteers adore him. Because of his size, amount of pain he is in and sad emotional state Harvey needs get out of the shelter quickly or he will be euthanized as the shelter cannot bear to prolong his suffering. Harvey's time at the shelter is very limited.

One of the staff made this plea: “I LOVE THIS DOG! Please help him...”

We need your help to save Harvey! Our boarding and medical bills have been huge this summer and we have been severely impacted by the down turn in the economy with more and more dogs in need every day. Harvey deserves to be rescued, he deserves to know that good people exist and care about him. At only 5 years old, he has barley lived half of his life and we owe it to him to repair his broken heart and bones!

Update: 9/11/09 pm: Harvey is safe with Coastal GS Rescue!! We picked him up this afternoon and did not make it back to Orange County in time to get him to our trusty vet. He is resting tonight on pain meds and we are making him comfortable. He goes in first thing in the morning to be seen by our veterinarian. What we can tell you about Harvey is this.....he is SWEETER than sweet. A complete love bug and even though he is pain and very depressed, he is starting to turn his frown upside down!

Update: 9/15/09: We have been given some GREAT news this week! Harvey may not need orthopedic surgery as we had originally thought. Harvey is under the care of one of our wonderful vets and has received a new cast, crate rest, pain meds and antibiotics. Because of the location of the break, we are hoping that it heals completely and will be stronger than if he had a surgical repair! That is the good news! We have a little bit of bad news as well. It turns out that Harvey had been neglected for a very long time. His spirit and body is very broken. Harvey does not love to be touched and really doesn't like seeing the vet! He is warming up to us and those that give him love but he really isn't to keen on anyone messing with him. Understandably, he is hurting and had been left to fend for himself for what we believe was a very long time. Harvey's coat and skin was a mess. His ears full of years of dirt and filth. His body riddled with fleas and ticks. While he may not need surgery, he is going to need a lot of tender loving care to get back to the happy dog he should be. Harvey will be revisiting our medical team regularly for therapy and rechecks. We are hoping to have a very happy report on his psychological condition very soon.

HUGE THANK YOU to all of Harvey's fans! You helped us meet our goal and now Harvey is assured a happy pain free future. Thank you!

Harvey

Harvey
Harvey wandered up to a good samaritan's house starving and dehydrated- he could barely walk anymore! He had no collar, no identification and looked like he had been on his own for some time. The good samaritans figured an owner of such a precious boy would surely be out looking for him. The placed fliers and signs and ultimately took him to animal control. Harvey spent the obligatory 5 days at the shelter and when no one came for him, he was on the short list. Thankfully the shelter contacted the good samaritans and they contacted Coastal German Shepherd Rescue. Harvey has been neutered, vaccinated and is ready for his forever home!

In the meantime, the family who found Harvey has been asking around the neighborhood if anyone has any clues as to where Harvey came from. After piecing stories together, it seems that Harvey lived for sometime behind a Food for Less with a homeless couple. This is the third dog in just as many weeks that we have tried to help that has been homeless for a very long time, living on the streets with their owners. It is heartbreaking as we sit in our homes with our dogs at our feet and realize the small luxuries that so many do not have.

Harvey weighs 78 lbs and is about 5 years old. He gets along great with other dogs, large and small. He doesn't ask for much--loves a full bowl of food and water! Please consider opening your heart and home to Harvey! Harvey is currently in boarding and would love a foster home until he finds his forever home.

Hope

Hope
Hope and her friend Harvard were rescued from a high kill shelter when their time ran out. She is currently in boarding. This wonderful gal would love to have a warm bed and a place to call home.

Earned her "Angel wings" 2/01/13

Hope

Hope
Hope was dumped in an overnight shelter space. We've included her intake photo which we still find difficult to look at. Clearly, whoever had her treated her terribly.

This girl is one of the sweetest, most obedient dogs we've ever had in the rescue. Hope has perianal fistulas, an auto immune disease. She's under a dermatologist's care and has made huge strides with aggressive medication. We've even been able to transition her to regular grain free dog food (Nature's Domain - Costco) with no problems! While Hope will always have to be on medications, the costs have plummeted and we see a light at the end of a very long tunnel. Hope is in a foster home that is taking very good care of her in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Housebroken, bomb-proof in the house, fantastic with other dogs, affectionate with people, PERFECT on a leash, loves to be brushed. This is one gal who has blossomed with proper care, daily walks and a nice soft bed for relaxing.

Hope's medical needs are finally straightforward and manageable. She is highly adoptable for a family looking for a low energy, mellow girl.

Ingo

Ingo
Ingo would love nothing more than to have a life of his own. Right now, he is in boarding and that is just not the life for a young and lively boy like Ingo. Ingo is just about 18 months old and could play all day long! He is a wonderful buddy to other dogs. Balanced and good natured define Ingo! If you are looking for a young male to join your pack, Ingo could just be the ticket! With a short, neat coat and very housebroken, Ingo would make an easy transition to living in a home!

Ingo does have epilepsy and we've spent a considerable amount of time working with doctors to balance his medication. We are happy to report that his current medication works very well, it is inexpensive and he lives a very normal life, playing, running and going for walks with volunteers from the kennel. Ingo is a very active guy and we would love to get him out of boarding where he has been for a very long time.

Jack

Jack
Jack is a sweet boy who loves to go for walks, play with his toys, and especially enjoys his bones! He's deaf, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying himself. He understands some basic hand signals (sit, down & come) and we're working on adding more. This beautiful boy would do best in a low traffic household, as he doesn't like to be startled (and can't hear anyone coming). Jack is on the small side, walks well on a leash and is crate trained.

Sadly, Jack was diagnosed with cancer. There was nothing more that could be done for him, so he was given his angel wings on November 9, 2017.

Jake

Jake
Please read Jake's entire bio before applying to adopt him.

Jake came to Coastal and was feral, because he was used as a breeding dog and wasn't socialized with people at all. His prior owners kept him in the bathroom and when they decided to move they didn't include him in their plans.

Understandably, when we got him he wanted absolutely nothing to do with people. He has come around with the kennel staff because of their daily interactions with him but he is still frightened of new people. Jake is phenomenal with other dogs.

Jake has never been on a leash or gone for a walk - when things go around his neck he gets very upset and starts alligator rolling. So, as of now, he's in a doggy daycare setting where he can be with other dogs, but has only befriended the kennel staff.

Jake requires a special home that has other dogs in it which would help him to adjust to a new environment. The people in the home would need to be extremely patient with him, and if they have some experience with feral dogs, that would be a plus. A home with young children will not work for Jake as that would be too much for him to handle.

Jake is not for everybody. If you have experience handling feral dogs, have another dog or dogs in your home, and lots of time and patience, you might be able to get Jake to come around.

Jameson

Jameson
Jameson is a young boy, probably only a year of age, who was rescued from a high-kill shelter. He wasn't leash trained when he arrived, but has been in obedience boot camp and has been making great progress! He's the proud owner of a contagious smile, is gentle when taking treats, and is going to make a great addition to an active household.

Jane

Jane
Jane's shelter plea was circulated far and wide. We mist have received her sad shelter picture 35 times from people begging us to save her. We didn't have any space in boarding and couldn't afford to bring in another doggy. At just the right time, a kind foster stepped up and offered to foster Jane! Right about then, we found out that Jane had a friend at the shelter--a cute, GSD mix who she was buddies with. We could not rescue Jane and leave her pal Rhett behind. So, both Jane and Rhett were rescued and are now fostered together. They are both waiting for forever homes--together or separately--neither will mind!

Jane is super easy going, loves other dogs, enjoys playing and even gave a shot at swimming! She is good natured, loving and gentle. We believe she is 6-7 years old and has a lot of life in her! She would love a home with other animals as she is a very social gal.

Jax

Jax
Jax and Rosie are sibling Akita mixes. Approximately 8 years old and would love to be adopted together (and for only one adoption donation).

Jax (Black and white male) is a total doll who wants nothing more than to gaze into your eyes and sit by your feet but he can get his "groove on" if a Lizard or a Road Runner need chasing out of his space. He loves his "stuffie toys" and likes to carry one around all day. He was a mess when pulled from the Shelter, severely depressed, lethargic, arthritic and had major hair loss. Blood work was done and he is hypothyroid... one little tablet a day and he is a different dog. He also takes medication for arthritis. Jax weighs about 97lbs, is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations and just needs a place to chill for the rest of his life. He knows basic commands and is learning to walk nicely on a leash.

Rosie (Brindle female) is a spitfire. Just adorable and full of life. She still has a lot of puppy in her and it is hard to believe that she is considered a senior, She loves nothing more than her toys and her ball. She seems to be in perfect health for her age and is a little smaller than her brother, at 68lbs. She is spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. When she was pulled from the Shelter she was pretty traumatized and still suffers from a little isolation anxiety when away from her brother. She will require a yard with a high fence as she can easily scale a four foot fence. She can be a little stand offish with new people but soon warms up to them. She knows basic commands and seems to have had some training in her earlier years. She is learning to walk nicely on a leash.

Both dogs were previously outside dogs and had never been indoors. They are now house trained and would love to be indoor dogs. They need to be adopted together with an experienced owner and somebody who will continue with their training. Ideally their new home would be cat free and have no other dogs. They are great with children but need to go to a home with older kids, simply due to their size and small children could get knocked over.

Jessie

Jessie
Jessie came to us from a high-kill shelter in horrible shape; she had demodex mange and a bad yeast infection. From the moment we met, we knew she was a diamond in the rough. As sweet as they come, Jessie's also very smart, dog friendly and a lover of all people. She's great in the house, potty trained and loves to follow her people and cuddle in her down time. Her favorite activity, however, is chasing after her ball!

Joy

Joy
Joy is 100% sweetheart! A dignified and mature gal, at about eight years old, but don't let that fool you. Though she's shy at first, this sweetheart has personality and loves to give gentle kisses. She's a lovely girl who enjoys the simple pleasures in life -- a treat, a warm bed and rolling in the grass.

Joy was turned into a shelter after giving her all to her family for years. It is clear that they didn't return the favor, as this poor girl had ear infections that have been left untreated. She is currently getting Joy medical care she needs for her ears. Joy is eager to join a forever home where she can be treated like a member of the family as she deserves. Joy may not be the best choice for a home with small children only because she prefers a calmer environment. She does great with others of all sizes. She also doesn't like being alone and would need a person or family willing to work with her on her separation anxiety. If you work from home or looking for a companion to a younger dog, Joy would a fine choice to show 'em the ropes. Dogs don't come any more sweet or gentle than Joy!

Kaiser

Kaiser
Kaiser is a handsome, 5-year-old classic red and black Shepherd. His kennel managers report that he's a really nice boy and would likely do just fine with a female dog as a friend (provided she's another large dog; no small dogs or kitties for Kaiser). He's calm and very easy to handle BUT he will need to go to a home with a secure yard/high fence, as he is a jumper.

Kasey

Kasey
Kasey came to Coastal via a good Samaritan who found her near death on the railroad tracks in Torrance. After the emergency vet stabilized her phnuemonia it was discovered that she has a conditional known as Mega-Esophogus where the dog must be fed in an upright position in order for the food to reach her tummy.

Kasey is living with a foster family that is familiar with the routine and it only takes a few extra minutes to feed her in the Doggy High Chair twice a day. She is a sweet young girl, only 1 ½ yrs of age and is house trained and crate trained. She is living with a pack of 2 other dogs (1 male puppy and 1 senior female) and is adjusting really well to her new world. She loves toys and people and is well socialized when it comes to other dogs.

Keith

Keith
Keith is about 4 years old and is just a wonderful boy. He loves going for walks and he gets along great with the ladies. He can be particular about the fellas but he does like some of them. Khaleesi

Khaleesi
Most of us fumble and stumble our way through life forever wondering what our true purpose might be. Not Khaleesi. She knows with 100 percent certainty, just as sure as she knows that car rides are fun and grass is tasty, that she was put on this earth to be part of a family. What she doesn’t know is why it’s taking so gosh-darn long!

Now almost 7 years old, Khaleesi has been dealt some truly lousy hands by fate. She was raised in a loving home early on, but got rehomed because one of the old dogs in the house didn't get along with her. We don't know anything about that home, but Khaleesi  ended up in a high kill shelter overweight and unable to walk.  Her chip was still registered to her original owners who were contacted but they were not in a position to take her back and her current owners made it clear they didn't want her.  Even though we didn't need another medical dog, Coastal couldn’t stand by and let her be abandoned/discarded yet again.  So we agreed to take  her into the rescue and assume her medical care and the journey began.

Unfortunately, fate wasn’t quite done messing with Khaleesi, and following an initial operation where pins and plates were put into her legs, she contracted MRSA, necessitating another surgery to remove the pins and plates. Complications ensued, as did more surgeries and treatments, casts, splints, enforced crate rest, foul-tasting medicines, and on and on. Two and a half years have passed since her ordeal started, enough time to crush just about anyone’s spirit, but, through it all, Khaleesi has been a real trouper. Now, thanks to the excellent care of her vets and foster mom, she’s largely overcome her injuries (she still wears a splint and needs to be helped while walking), and is more than ready, willing, and able to finally achieve her life’s purpose of being a cherished member of a family. This beautiful girl has so much love to give, and she’s sick and tired of holding it in, doggone it!

Khaleesi adores people and bonds easily. She’s extremely observant and engaged, a quick study, food/treat motivated, good in the house, not destructive, has ears softer than mink, and sheds much less than your average GSD. She’s an outstanding watchdog and an effective deterrent against pesky uninvited solicitors, but can also be trained to "not" bark at someone like your mailman,  fairly quickly. She does tend to bark at other dogs she encounters on walks, but has made friends with the ones at her foster mom’s house with a proper introduction. Due to her prey drive she is probably not suitable for a home with cats, however.

The past two years haven’t been much fun for Khaleesi — enforced crate rest is boring and lonely — and she’s eager to make up for the time she’s lost by living every day to the fullest. The simple things in life, things that other dogs take for granted, like a car ride or a walk in the park, give Khaleesi unbridled joy. Sometimes she can get a tad too overexuberant and boisterous, but this tendency will undoubtedly dissipate with time and training. Though a bit unpolished at present, Khaleesi really is a special girl who deserves a family worthy of her love and companionship, one that can help her blossom into the awesome dog she was meant to be.

Kingston

Kingston
Kingston’s owners decided to take him to the county shelter, where most dogs don't leave on a leash. Thankfully, the intervention team called and told us about this diamond in the rough. Clearly never cared for, he is gaining some much needed weight, didn't enjoy a much needed nail trim, but is still a sweet, young and gorgeous boy. We're excited to give him a new life and, hopefully soon, a forever family of his own!

Lady

Lady
There is an old saying "only a face a mother could love"!Not true with Lady. Everyone who meets her falls in love.

Lady came to us severely under nourished and severely neglected. Despite her improper care, Lady holds no grudges. She is a friend to all, loves life, loves to go on long walks every night, and is affectionate and sweet by nature. Lady still has a lot of love to give. Her skin is healing nicely and her hair is starting to in. She is a real trooper!

Lucy 2

Lucy 2
Lucy didn't have the best start, but she sure has bounced back! Lucy and her brother, Patrick, were neglected, abandoned and both survived Parvo. A nice family took them in to foster from another rescue, who is no longer responding to them. We've tried as well and, after repeated attempts, have decided to help find these adorable pups their forever homes.

Both are friendly with other animals, but need some leash manners. They get along with everyone, including a Sulcata Tortoise, and would be fine with other dogs if properly introduced. Patrick acts as his sister's protector and Lucy is more submissive, loving to play with everyone.

Patrick loves to play fetch with a squeaky ball and Lucy likes to antagonize him and try to get it first. She will drop it and walk away if he doesn't give her attention. She also likes to play tug of war with a rope and plays hide and seek with him in a trash can. They are house broken, but still teething (even though their destruction has been minimal). These young cuties are ready for an active family that will continue with further training to perfect her skills.

Lulu

Lulu
Lulu has a fospice home caring for her. She has been diagnosed with cancer and probably only has a couple months to live.

Sadly, she was surrendered to the shelter simply because she is old. She's been an indoor dog her whole life and all she wants is a nice soft bed to lay on. Whoever had her previously overfed her and didn't give her much exercise. She could lose some weight, but she can't go for long walks, just short ones a little at a time.

A dog like this deserves more from her family.

Mabel

Mabel
Marigold's Munchkin's were born and raised in a foster home. These happy, well adjusted puppies are smart, loveable and not to mention adorable. They are ready to find their forever homes and will be ready to leave the nest August 17th when they turn 8 weeks old.

Madden

Madden
Madden is a diamond in the rough who didn't have a cushy life before his rescue. Landing at the county shelter as a stray, his fly stricken ears tell the story of an outside dog. He was slow to trust at first, but is doing much better now; he has his buddies in boarding who he likes to play with and enjoys his walks around town with volunteers. Madden would do best with older children and someone with GSD experience.

Malcolm

Malcolm
Malcolm has been in a foster home that is pretty active - lots of dogs coming and going (all ages) - he usually does pretty well but sometimes, he just gets tired of the hubbub and retires to the bedroom! Malcolm loves to take short walks every day and he's housebroken, doesn't bark, sleeps quite a lot but loves a good belly rub and head scratch. He loves to sunbathe on warm days but during this cold winter, he is loving his dog beds inside the house. If you are looking for a low maintenance senior, look no further than Malcolm!

Marge

Marge
Marge is a lovely large senior who was rescued from a high kill shelter on her last day. Marge is a love with people but is best as an only dog - she just prefers her own company and the company of humans!

Marge is housebroken, has gone through obedience and walks well on a leash. She can also be crated and rides nicely in a car. There is nothing this spunky character enjoys more than her toys and a good old fashioned tennis ball! She can entertain herself for hours and it's a joy to watch.

Max

Max
We've have had Max for 4 years now. In those 4 years, he's been obedience trained, socialized, enjoyed thousands of walks and thousands of cuddle sessions. He's loved and cared for, but craves a family of his own.

If you want a smart, trained, loyal handsome GSD, then Max is a must. He walks famously on a leash, is potty trained, good in the house, obedience trained and craves authoritative leadership. Max, while nearly perfect in every way, bonds really quickly with his handler and can get overprotective. He needs an experienced handler that will be the alpha, make him feel safe, and allow him to just relax and be a dog.

Maxi

Maxi

Maximus

Maximus
Maximus is a total love bug with the volunteers he knows and trusts, but he's another of our long-timers. He's been with us since the beginning of 2013. Yes, 2013.

When you rescue a dog from the shelter, you rarely know what you're going to get. Sometimes, they just need to get out of the shelter and decompress, which will allow them to relax and adjust to their new life. Sometimes they need more.

This is Maximus. Yes, he's stunning and he's a big boy. No, we don't know what his life prior to rescue entailed, but we can only imagine. Maximus doesn't trust people he doesn't know. Potential adopters? They're all people he doesn't know.

If you spend time around him, not even touching him, he'll notice you. He loves treats and tossing him treats is a sure way to get him to bookmark that face of yours. Some of our volunteers spent a week just giving him treats before moving on to walking him. Once he thinks of you as a treat dispenser, he's no longer too scared, because treats are kind of worth whatever bad things he imagines could happen. I mean, treats!

Then, when you get him out, you'll notice he's cautious, but he loves going on walks so much that he's willing to put up with the geeky human at his side.

We don't know what happened to him, but we're pretty sure it was nothing. A whole lot of nothing. No socialization, no attention, no training, no love, and no promise of a better day.

After you've taken him on a few walks, you'll notice his demeanor change. He loves walks almost as much as treats. I mean, walks!

Even though he loves walking with you, he won't be a cuddly, leaning against your side kind of guy just yet. Trust comes slowly. Take it slow and, after a while, you'll notice that he's seeking affection. Once he trusts you, well, there's no end to his adorableness and affection. He loves belly rubs, giving kisses, playing catch, completing an obedience command with flair and then looking at you for praise... he's the whole package.

He's going to need an adopter who can go slowly with him. Someone who is a strong handler and doesn't have a busy household. A local adopter who can come spend time getting to know him before adopting him. We wouldn't put Maximus in a home with young children, because that would be overwhelming for him. This stunner is looking for a person or a couple of people with whom he can build trust and a life.

She's a total love bug who is happiest laying down on a fluffy bed, spending time in the yard, going for walks and just surrounded by people who care for her.

Mesa is big and small dog friendly and would probably be fine with cats, too. When it comes to people, Mesa has enough love for everyone who crosses her path!

Miata

Miata
Miata is a dog friendly girl, around 8 years old, who has great energy: not too high, but not a couch potato, either. She follows direction like a champ, walks well on a leash, is crate trained, gets along with other dogs (big and small), loves children and is just looking for a family who would love to add a sleek beauty to their pack.

Miata has Mega E, which is easily managed with her Bailey Chair and a tweaking of her food and water. Don't be fooled, because this condition doesn't stop her from living her life to the fullest!

Miley

Miley
Miley came to us from a high kill shelter and was rescued on her last day. She had been adopted twice before and when the owners found out she had a condition called Mega-esophagus they immediately dumped her back at the shelter.

Mega-E is a very manageable condition that some pups end up with at birth or even later in life and it only requires that the pup be fed in a vertical position so that the food can find its way down to the stomach (gravity takes hold) – the esophagus muscle does not work properly and therefore does not transfer food down to stomach on its own. Miley shares a foster home with another Mega-E dog and has been putting on weight and improving on a daily basis.

Miley is a very sweet pup and enjoys her people and canine friends. She is crate trained, potty trained, knows many commands such as lay down, out, stay, etc. She is very loyal to her people and comes on command. She will be on the small side, probably 40 -45 lbs and she will thrive in a home with a family that is willing to put in the time and effort to manage her condition, it might take an extra 20 minutes to feed her but she is well worth the extra effort.

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

If you are looking for a fun and vibrant middle aged girl who doesn't want to be around other animals, she is the perfect dog for you!

Nana

Nana
Nana came to us weighing 7 lbs more pre surgery - if you look below, you can see the tumors weighing her down. Someone allowed her to get like this with no medical care - clearly a mother over & over (you should see her take care of the foster pups in her temporary home), she was tossed out like garbage.

We have nursed her through a slight case of pneumonia and had the largest of the tumors removed. Thankfully, Nana is in robust health, no cancer but will require a couple more surgeries to get back her girlish figure.

Nana looks morose in her photos but she is anything but. She is truly a gentle soul with people and good with other dogs but like any good mom, she doesn't take much lip from anyone. She lives relatively harmonioulsy in a house filled with other dogs, some alpha, some not, most are older but a handful of pups sprinkled in. She has taken to the "dog" couch, relaxing with her buddy Deuce in quiet harmony.

Nana would be a wonderful addition to a family with smaller kids - she is quiet, calm and loves a good long head scratch.

Nikke

Nikke
Mr Nikke had it rather rough before a good Samaritan found him dumped and sitting on the side of a road. When Nikke first came to Coastal, he had large patches of missing hair on his body, this is from flea/food allergies. He has been eating strictly a grain-free diet and this has made a world of difference as the hair has been slowly coming back.

Nikke stayed in a home with another wonderful Samaritan prior to Coastal, yet, he was a tad bit too interested in chasing the cats. While in this home, he began learning manners and general obedience training. Nikke can be very protective of the people he bonds with and while Nikke can be a bit dominant with other dogs, he corrects easily to leadership. Nikke will make a great partner for someone in need of a friend!

Oso

Oso
OSO is a good 'ol boy about 10 years old who would LOVE to be in a foster home ~ boarding is ruff on the older dogs. We don't know much about Oso's past; he was found at Galleano Winery in Mira Loma. No one came looking so ... we swept him up in our safety net. He's ok with other dogs; no kitties.

Oso II

Oso II
Oso is madly in love with people. In his perfect world, he'd live with a family that's retired and can spend leisurely days cuddling, out and about, relaxing at the beach or in the mountains. He knows, however, that times are tough and understands if you're not quite ready to stop working.

You'll never see Oso being grumpy, because he's too busy smiling and enjoying the moment. A quick study, he knows his basic commands and lives to please. A true volunteer favorite, we're all routing for Oso to find a foster home or, even better, a forever family. You will wonder why it took you so long to find him, as he's a true gem!

Patron has a calm, yet very fun personality. He walks great on a leash, knows his basic commands, loves car rides, toys (did we mention toys?), and other dogs. He would do best in a home with older kids. He is potty trained, great in the house, and is an all around amazing guy who is a volunteer favorite.

Patty Jane
Patty Jane is a sweetheart, but wasn't going to be adopted at the shelter where everyone was lining up for puppies. She's about 90% blind and a senior, but she still has lots of love to give and give she does!

Patty Jane has diabetes, which is easily treated with daily insulin shots. She improved greatly in her foster home, but circumstances have changed and she's now seeking a new foster family. She lives with another dog now, but new dogs can scare her, as her vision is impaired and she would prefer to be an only "child." This cutie loves her car rides and goes for 2-3 walks every day- she is always up for an adventure through the neighborhood!

Poncho
In the spring of 2014, a litter of newborns was found sleeping in a drain pipe. Thanks to a Good Samaritan, the mother and her puppies were saved, one of them being Poncho.

If you are looking for a young, energetic, ball crazy, trained, Ridgeback-y looking big boy and have the time to show him structure, boundaries, and work on continuing his socialization, this boy will have you smiling from ear to ear for years to come.

We've been working with this handsome purple tongued boy for over four years now. Poncho was terrified of everything he didn't know and he knew nothing except the home in which he was being forced to leave. He was petrified. He was unsure of himself, his surroundings, strangers, other dogs, and he was lashing out. He's come so far, but he still needs a low traffic household and someone who will continue to introduce him to the world around him. Poncho's now obedience trained, so much less fearful, so much more trusting, and so responsive with the people who have worked with him. He needs an adopter who can spend time with him, prior to adoption, as he doesn't trust strangers. We will work with you and Poncho- getting you both to the point where he trusts you and can leave with you. He just needs someone who can spend the time to show him structure, boundaries, and work on continuing his socialization, and this boy will have you smiling from ear to ear for years to come.💙

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue saved Queenie on her very last day from a high kill animal shelter. She was emaciated, starving and lethargic. We took her straight to our vet team who diagnosed her with diabetes and mammary tumors. She has been hospitalized for 10 days while the doctors have treated her diabetes and got her stable. She is now ready to leave the hospital and go to a foster home! She does not require much, just a soft bed, good food and two injections a day.

Queenie deserves only the best and we are working towards giving that to her! With your help, we can make sure Queenie has a great second chance at living the good life!

Quinn is absolutely gorgeous - she has one small flaw with a turned out ankle that we've xrayed and it appears to be a birth defect. She is not affected by that foot at all! Rambo was part of a family, but they were given orders to relocate and left him behind. We didn't want to see him go to a shelter, so he's now in rescue hoping to find someone who will love him forever. This handsome boy is around 7 years old, gets along great with other dogs, has lived with children, is potty trained, and absolutely adores his people. He will follow you everywhere and is a total velcro dog.

Rambo isn't taking the loss of his family very well. He's sad and would really benefit from a foster home, rather than waiting for his forever family in boarding. If you're looking for a family friendly boy who will love you forever, Rambo is your guy!

Ramsey

Ramsey
Ramsey, who we think is mostly white GSD with a bit of lab mixed in, is great with other dogs, big or small. He's housebroken, crate trained, and has lived with cats- he was curious about them, but he had one kitty buddy who was his bff and they hung out together in a big crate. His paperwork listed him as 3-5, but we don't know his real age. He still acts like a puppy, but is smart as a whip, eager to please, and learns quickly.

With people, Ramsey is terrific and bonds quickly. He knows how to sit, shake, down, loves to roll over for belly rubs, and he plays fetch, liking to drop the ball at your feet. He loves to go for walks and learned how to walk on a leash in a matter of minutes. Ramsey does not bark unless someone is in the yard that he doesn't know. He is a great dog who is as sweet as the day is long and would make the perfect addition to any family!

Redd

Redd
Redd came to us after being tied to a tree, apparently no longer useful to whoever cared for him. We are relatively certain that Redd had never spent any time inside a house before he found Coastal. And we can tell you that, like nearly every shepherd that gets to spend time with his humans wherever they are....Redd has embraced and prefers being inside. It took his foster family a little time to get him to understand that the potty was outside but, being a shepherd, Redd got the hang of it pretty quickly!

After we had rescued Redd and had him in boarding for a couple of months, he came down with a very serious medical condition that required diagnostics and it was determined that exploratory surgery was necessary. This came on the heels of two other emergency surgeries but we stood behind Redd and had him properly cared for. Our vet team found a splenic infarction and removed Redd's spleen, along with at least a dozen bladder stones. He spent several days in the hospital. Poor dude! Within a week or two of exiting the hospital, Redd's face swelled up - back to the hospital. What they found was an infected impacted tooth so yet another surgery for our guy, not to mention face drains for 10 days!

He has bounced back quickly, no worse for the wear and has mellowed in the couple of months in his foster home. He gets along with everyone - male, female, senior, pup. He does try to exert his dominance but he responds well to human intervention and is much less bossy. He does still like to chatter at some of the boys if someone moves out of position but otherwise, he is a relaxed, happy guy who loves to go for walks; he is quite taken with sunbathing on the patio as well!

Rikki

Rikki
We haven’t wanted to write this update. Not that postponing it makes it any different, but it’s hard to write, relive, think about how things had been for her before she landed at the shelter, and how things should’ve gone for her from the beginning, 6-9 years ago.

Rikki, formerly Beatrix, was released from 24 hour care on Thursday. They said she would urinate, then continue to strain without anything coming out, but, with all of the trauma her bladder just endured, it wasn’t super worrisome and we should continue to monitor her. She was on a broad-spectrum antibiotic that would tackle a UTI, which was assumed even though the culture hadn’t come back yet, so that should be kicking in now. She was raring to go (she even had a warning on her ER enclosure, because she wanted to run around outside and would drag the techs through the hospital to get there), was eating, and they thought she could continue to recover from her foster home.

The straining continued when she got back to her foster home. We scheduled an appointment for the next day and hoped we would be cancelling it because she would’ve emptied her bladder later in the day, but that didn’t happen. She continued to strain and whimper, but nothing came out. For the amount she was eating, her fecal output was also very small and concerning.

At her appointment, they noticed that she was swollen “back there,” which was new. They expressed her bladder and what came out was described as almost syrup-like. New X-rays showed a pelvic tumor, which wasn’t seen last Tuesday, as well as lots and lots of fecal matter. They initially thought it could be pyometra and, when the X-rays showed it was, they went into surgery thinking that would resolve everything. She was such a pus filled mess that they didn’t see the tumor over there (she had an open pyometra- her cervix stayed open which allowed the pus to drain from her uterus, which bought her more time, but filled her insides with pus). Sadly, this sweet girl had a lot more issues than we initially realized and all of them were terminal. All of them could’ve also been avoided had she been spayed, because they were all reproductive issues.

The hardest part is that she was so sweet. Her fosters described her as starved for attention and adorable- she was a velcro dog. The straining was clearly painful for her and then seeing her bowels so full and learning she couldn’t empty them, either, along with her bladder, they said it was possible to maybe buy her a week, but it’d be painful and she’d have to come back to the hospital every day to be sedated and expressed. Everyone loved her, which made the decision easier and harder. We let her go, her foster by her side. She didn’t deserve anymore pain.

Rest in Peace, Rikki. We’re sorry that we only knew you for 4 days, but we hope that you felt loved. 💙

You can see the beginning of her story here: https://www.facebook.com/110101032413435/posts/5019272571496232/?d=n

Rosie's world was turned upside down when her owner's wife passed away and he then lost his home. We found Rosie posted on Craig's List; he was begging for someone to please save his Rosie. Of course Coastal GSR took her in. Rosie is a smaller girl for a GSD and very loving. She has two bad elbows but has lived with it all her life. She is on inexpensive medication and it doesn't seem to phase her much. Rosie would love to find her forever 'retirement' home!

Roxy was returned to us due to a job change - she is great around kids and does better with submissive male dogs.

About 6 years old, Roxy loves to show how talented she is with her knowledge of basic commands. She is also quick to roll over for a good ole' fashion belly rub. Kids would be a joy for Roxy as they can keep each other entertained for hours! She is housebroken and reliable in the house.

Roxy does have epilepsy which was discovered over the summer and we have been working with a neurologist to get the right medication in place. She is doing better all the time. Epilepsy can be somewhat common in dogs but can also be easily controlled with the right medication. She is a joy and we hope that won't stop the right person from adopting her.

Scully is a laid back, easy going guy who would love to have a best friend with whom to spend his retirement years. He's an active senior, around 9-10 years old, who absolutely adores going for walks and is happy to stroll around for over a mile and then will celebrate by taking a nap when he gets home. He's a napping professional and can often be found on his back, looking like he fell asleep mid-rollover.

Scully, probably a GSD/Carolina Dog mix, doesn't like to be touched when he doesn't see it coming. Because of this, we think a home with no children would be best. He is potty trained, good in the house, and easy on a leash. He needs a home that will provide structure and boundaries, which will let him know that you’re in charge and he can relax and just be a dog.

Sherman
Sherman is a good 'ol boy who would love to have a soft, warm place to lay his head. At 11 yrs old, he's too old to
be in the boarding kennel. Could you open your heart and home to this boy?

Sherman is a little needy but very sweet. We think he'd be better with female dogs since he was just recently neutered (he hasn't been tested with small dogs). Sherman is on the smaller side for a male GSD -- probably around 70 lbs. But he LOVES to eat! He'll do just about anything for food. Please consider letting
Sherman spend his golden years in your home?

Skippy

Skippy
Skippy was rescued from the San Bernadino City Shelter with his 3 siblings. The 4 ten - 12 week old puppies were found living under a mobile home. Scared and confused these poor babies ended up at the high kill shelter with little hope of being saved. Fortunately their little sister Sunny stole the hearts of some of the shelter workers and volunteers. She was the most outgoing of the pups and quickly warmed up to the attention from the shelter staff. Seeing how sweet and loving she was, they figured there was hope for all the pups if a rescue could be found to save them. They appealed to Coastal to save not only little Sunny, but her 3 littermates as well.

Upon arriving at their foster home it was apparent that these pups had missed a lot of interaction with people and would need to learn that people and life in general was nothing to be afraid of. To accomplish this, each pup would need to be placed in separate foster homes. Once split out, each pup has begun to blossom. They are being exposed to people and other pets and are well on their way to being adoptable.

Update 10/27/11
Skippy has come a long way in a short time. He loves his foster mom and all the foster dogs and puppies in his foster home. He has learned how to play with the big and little dogs alike. He loves to be petted and loves to play with his toys. He now follows his foster mom around and is happy to adventure around by himself.

Skippy is crate trained and sleeps through the night without needing to be taken out. Playing with his toys or chewing on "antlers" are some of his favorite things to do during the day. While he is a playful active little boy, he is a very calm puppy and will easily fit into a new home. While he has missed out on things early in his life, he is eager to learn about his new world. This smart and sweet boy just needs a family to continue to show him the world is a wonderful place.

Sadly this wonderful little guy never found his forever Family, having succumbed to Distemper. Your foster family loved you little man and were so sorry they weren't able to save you. Your "paws prints" are etched forever in their hearts and you will be loving remembered forever.

Rest in Peace little golden boy.

Skittles

Skittles
Please meet the 2014 S litter! 2 males and 1 female. These poor babies came to us with Parvo. After a few weeks at the vet and in our care they are doing great.

Smokey

Smokey
Smokey and Jesse were going to be turned in to the shelter, but the intervention team reached out to us and these two young cuties wound up with Coastal GSR, instead. They are brothers, born on 10-21-17, who are good with other dogs and love people.

Jesse and Smokey have grown up with children and have done fine with them. They are a bonded pair who would like to remain buddies for life. As such, we will adopt them together for only one adoption donation.

Spirit

Spirit
Meet Spirit, a quiet gentle boy who has no idea that he's short a leg. He's great on a leash and loves to go for walks.

Spirit is barely "senior" -- approx 6 yrs old. He absolutely loves kids and is so gentle with them. He is mellow and just wants to be next to you. He follows his foster mom everywhere. He is potty trained and will stand by the door and bark if he needs to go outside. He instantly loves everyone he meets and has no shyness.

He'd make a perfect dog for a family with small kids as a 'starter' dog.

Stacie

Stacie

Star

Star
Star's shelter paperwork lists her as 12 and, while we were originally thinking there's no way, she probably is as she was adopted from the OC shelter in 2003. While she is not young, she is agile, loves to jump up on the couch and watch tv with her foster mom. She loves to put out a paw for you to hold when sitting next to you. It's quite cute.

If we didn't have paperwork showing her history, we would have pegged her at no more than 7 or 8. She has a spunky, take no prisoners attitude. She is housebroken, and gets along well with other dogs (although she is sure she is an alpha, but is easily corrected). She is living with a number of dogs, a mix of boys & girls, and doing fantastic.

We think she is mostly cattle dog even though her paperwork says otherwise - she is probably a perfect condo dog. She loves her dog bed in her foster mom's bedroom and sleeps there most of the night. You can see her white tippie toes which is what clues us to cattle dog. She loves to sunbathe in our California weather. She does like to sleep on a couch if given the chance, but is also very happy with her own dog bed.

While she is probably good with kids, they need to be probably older than 8 or 9 - she can be grouchy and a toddler would not be her favorite play toy. Even though she is older, she seems to have years of life left in her. She would be perfect for someone who is looking for a low maintenance, short walk companion.

Star loves people and most dogs but if going to a multi dog house, probably a male partner would be a better choice. She is not good with small animals, i.e. cats, etc.

Stephen

Stephen
Stephen was rescued with his brother Alec (from Baldwin Park - we do have a sense of humor!) - weighing in at over 100 lbs but with a loving, life is short personality, this is one big bubba fella. He's great with other dogs and loves people!

Update 1/25/12
Our beloved boy Stephen passed to the Rainbow Bridge last night. He didn't get the opportunity to find his forever family, but he had a family here with us. Stephen became very ill and even with the best vet care, we could not save him. Our vet team believes that he had a heart ailment that caused pneumonia. We are so very sad to have lost Stephen, but we know he is in a better place.

RIP big guy!

Sutter

Sutter
Meet Sutter! Sutter came to us after his time was up at a city shelter. He was disheveled and he could barely hold himself up on his own four legs. Thanks to a diligent foster mom, Sutter is now enjoying 20 minutes walks every day and now runs for his favorite tennis ball! Sutter is probably 9-10 years old and has a lot of life left! He is easy going and gets along well with all--except he would prefer not to have felines in his household!

Tiger

Tiger
Tiger is a bundle of energy who is craving a family of his own. He was living his life in a backyard with no real family interaction other than when they would come to feed him. Tiger, however, is great indoors as he has never had an accident- he will go to a door to let you know he needs to go to the bathroom. Tiger will do best with a family who is willing to commit the time for training, as he very much has puppy tendencies, is goofy, yet confident. Tiger loves all people, but may be a bit too much energy for small children. He hasn't spent much time with other animals, but he isn't aggressive with them. Tiger wants a backyard where he can romp and play all day! He will need a home with 6' plus walls so he can't jump over; skateboards and bicycles are a bit overwhelming to him as he wants them to stop moving. Tiger promises to love you forever if you open your heart and home to him!

Titan

Titan
We rescued Titan's mother, along with her eight puppies, from a high-kill shelter in June of 2012. Titan was quickly adopted, but his family wanted to return him 7 years later so he’s been with us for over a year now. He was scared and unsure why his life was turned upside down, but we continue working with him and he's built relationships with the volunteers and come out of his shell more and more. He's absolutely adorable and sweet with the people he knows and is getting better about opening up to new people.

This handsome boy is a big fan of balls and will elegantly leap into the air to catch anything you throw at him. Titan is good in the house, potty trained, good in the car, knows his basic commands, likes to give you his paw, and is working to further his obedience game. If you have GSD experience and are looking for an extremely loyal, fun-loving, handsome dude to be your ride or die and only dog, look no further.

Titus

Titus
Titus defines the strong, silent type. This gentle giant can co exist in any environment. All he really wants is to be near his foster family. He is currently living with puppies, seniors and everything in between - he does all that he can to lay under the radar.

Titus was labeled as 8 years old in the shelter which was a death knell to begin with. After spending some time with him, our best guess is that he is probably about 5 years old. PERFECT age for a shepherd. Titus can be walked on a flat collar, he is dead on housebroken, he doesn't bark. This is an amazing dog - not only beautifully behaved, but a drop dead gorgeous sable!

Trooper

Trooper
Trooper is an XL beautiful boy. He is extremely loving with his human family and has wonderful energy & a strong will. Dogs like Trooper have no idea that he is disabled and will tear around the back yard chasing birds, rabbits, you name it! He ignores the fact that his hind legs don't work. Once he has a wheelchair, he will be able to live a relatively ordinary life. See the photos of wheelchair bound dogs here.

Trooper is working on playing nice with others - he is a dominant fellow and doesn't always play well with others. We are working on his socialization. He is housebroken; we think he is 6 - 7 years old. Trooper's adoption fee will include the wheelchair.

Venus

Venus
Venus was rescued from a hoarding situation in Palmdale with Ryker. She lived with over 150 dogs on a lot with several trailers and broken down cars. It is believed that Venus was born there and just lived with the pack.

Venus' ears threaten to topple her body over!!! At least the length of her head, they give her a rather comical, bright personality. She loves to sleep curled up on the top of the couch and can hold her own amongst big male shepherds that outweigh her by 100 lbs. She's got one of her big foster brothers wrapped around her paw and she can walk along underneath him if she is feeling threatened by others in the pack!

She became sick shortly after being rescued from the hoarder. We treated her with antibiotics but she didn't improve, so she went to Dr. Nichols for hospitalization and eventually tested positive for Distemper, Bordetella and Corona. She was fighting a lot of different viruses. Unfortunately, her immune system wasn't strong enough and her little body gave out.

Venus lived with Beth before becoming ill and had integrated herself into the pack quite well. It is always hard to loose any of our rescue dogs, but especially hard to loose a puppy that lived with you. Thank you Beth for fostering Venus and giving her some time in a home!

Winston

Winston
Winston didn't imagine spending his retirement at the OC Shelter, but found himself there with no idea how he was going to get out. We threw him a lifeline and he's been in a foster home ever since! This sweet boy loves people and gets along with other dogs, even the small ones.

He warms up quickly to people, yet, sort of prefers to do his own thing. Winston reacts to other dogs he sees while on his leash but it is more out of excitement than aggression. He has a torn acl and we have him on Rimadyl to keep him comfortable.

Winston would much prefer a home with older kids or adults only as he enjoys a calm lifestyle. While Winston is good with small dogs, we are unsure of cats, especially because one of his favorite pastimes is to chase squirrels!

If you're looking for a loyal companion who has lots of life left and even more love to give, Winston is the boy for you. ❤️

Woody

Woody
Woody has been a beloved family member since he was a little puppy. He is housebroken, great with people and other dogs. Woody is about 8 years old and a little confused but we are hoping to find him a foster home soon and really hoping for a retirement home for him very quickly!!! The senior dogs give so much back in their loyalty, love & dedication! They tend to be stressed out in their early days but once they settle in, they are calm, happy & quiet! Seniors are the most wonderful gifts!
