Sprite
- Female
Poor Sprite has not been socialized with people but she has with dogs. She adores the company of big & small dogs. When we say little, we really mean it!!! Sprite looks like a super miniature of a sable German Shepherd. She is dainty and quiet. We are working on her people skills and are confident that she will learn to love 2 leggeds as much as she does the 4 legged variety!
When we first rescued her, we thought she was a baby given her size but she has mature teeth, indicating that she is 6 months at least. She is probably not going to weigh more than 25 lbs. She loves to lounge on big fluffy dog beds or curl up in a chair and watch the activity in her foster home.
Update 7/05/10
After we had Sprite for a few days, she developed pneumonia and had to be hospitalized for two weeks. Thankfully, with great care, she has fought through the illness and is thriving in her foster home. She is housebroken, crate trained and walks well on a leash. She is well acclimated to her foster mom and has made great strides in her socialization. Sprite doesn't bark at all and will not get larger than a small shepherd mix (maybe 35 lbs). She is a perfect companion for a single person in an apartment situation.
Dogs like Sprite are very rewarding rescues. To go from nearly feral to living, thriving, enjoying human companionship is an amazing process. Its hard to believe that back in April, Sprite was foraging in a deserted dirt lot. She has her whole wonderful life ahead of her!
