Spencer

  • Male
  • 1-2 years
  • German Shepherd Dog

Ladies, looking for your prince charming with four legs? Well, here he is! No more wishing upon a star, as Spencer is stunningly handsome, as well as hopelessly devoted to the women in his life.

We do not know of Spencer's past- if there was conflict with a male in his life- and he can be very slow to trust men, in general. However, he has spent time with a male volunteer, even spending the weekend at his house, and was the perfect dog! So, as the story begins in his new life to come, "Once upon a time there was a big, beautiful prince named Spencer..."

Spencer lived in a foster home with three females and had no issues with them at all. He grew very attached within a few days and quite protective when men would enter the territory. He played like a puppy with his foster mom and fully trusts her. He has had obedience training but, as we suggest to all adopters, training with his new family is highly recommended. Spencer was great around his canine foster siblings and would always go out of his way to avoid conflict. He hasn't been around smaller children since we rescued him so we aren't sure how he will react to them.

We believe that Spencer was probably not socialized during the first year of his life (he's just about 13 months old) and needs to be introduced properly to new people and dogs. He was kind of awkward when he first met his canine siblings (he wasn't sure what the proper protocol was to initiate play), but learned quickly.

Spencer is sensitive to being grabbed by the collar but behaves beautifully when on a leash. He loves being massaged from head to tail on that gorgeous coat of his.

Given the right home with experienced German Shepherd dog handling, Spencer will flourish into the great dog that we know he is capable of being. He just needs time, patience, confidence and love to bring him into adulthood correctly.
