Silver
- Female
Silver lives in a foster home with Kaelin, they’re the best roommates. He loves to follow her around and licks her face right after each meal. Silver loves to walk right by you and is always making sure that he can see you on the corner of his eye if he decides to wonder off by himself in the backyard. One thing he loves to do when eating is to lay down on the floor and hug his bowl . . . He is incredible with other dogs. Silver is more comfortable being follower than a leader. I’m sure if he can only talk, he would rather go home to a place where there are other brothers or sisters that he can hang out with.
Silver is one that does not care much about toys, what he likes to do is go for walks, patrol the area and hang out right by your side. He is a gentle soul as I am certain you can tell by his pictures. We are trying to get him to understand that jumping on the bed is not something he should get used to, although I am sure that if his new family would want him to sleep with them on the same bed he will be quite delighted.
There are a couple of bumps on the road for Silver, one is to gain weight, as you can tell by his pictures he is awfully thin. His bones are sticking out in the back and his ribs are showing as well. Having said that, he is a very healthy boy that can go for a mile or 2 of walking if you let him with a ton of energy. . . . He is very motivated by food by the way! At full weight with the right amount of muscle, Silver should be around 75 pounds.
Also, he was diagnosed with Epilepsy, since being on medication he has not had an incident of seizure. His meds are given to him 2 x a day every 12 hours. Once you meet this boy I know you will be amazed at his disposition, temperament and his gentle nature. And please, don’t be scared of his Epilepsy, it really is not a life threatening disease. It’s almost like having seasonal allergies . . . once you’re on medication therapy your allergy never comes back! Silver is between 4-5 years old.
Update October30,2006:
We have fantastic news!!! On October 23rd, Silver went for his first visit to a Neurologist, he passed with flying collars and his Epilepsy is completely under control!!!! If his meds are given routinely (2 tablets twice a day), his seizures will be kept at bay, in other words, having 1 seizure a month would be too much. Silver responded to his meds very quickly which is another piece of good news!
Now for more news on Silver at home . . . . he has actually learned how to play! He did his first play bow a few days back and didn’t know how to turn around properly and fell on his behind, well that lasted a good 2 seconds! He has now mastered his turns, and he has also perfected the “run” after the “bow” move. It gives me such joy to see Silver just thrilled about his new life, a feeling that’s hard to put into words.
One of the things he loves to do at night, is come up to you while you’re asleep put his nose close enough to yours without touching . . . just to make sure you’re doing ok, then he goes back to his bed and sleeps soundly.
I think for the first time in a long time he thinks he is in Doggie heaven. Silver is so content, and so appreciative of everything he gets from his Foster Family, no matter how small or big the gesture, he reacts the same way. The twinkle in his eye is constant, he is always eager to say “thank you” . . .
Silver is the epitome of a Gentle Soul, to both people and other dogs. He is very respectful and well mannered, truly an easy addition to any family.
He’ll be patiently waiting for his new family to give him a second chance at life . . . . will that be you?
