Redd

  • Male

Redd came to us after being tied to a tree, apparently no longer useful to whoever cared for him. We are relatively certain that Redd had never spent any time inside a house before he found Coastal. And we can tell you that, like nearly every shepherd that gets to spend time with his humans wherever they are....Redd has embraced and prefers being inside. It took his foster family a little time to get him to understand that the potty was outside but, being a shepherd, Redd got the hang of it pretty quickly!

After we had rescued Redd and had him in boarding for a couple of months, he came down with a very serious medical condition that required diagnostics and it was determined that exploratory surgery was necessary. This came on the heels of two other emergency surgeries but we stood behind Redd and had him properly cared for. Our vet team found a splenic infarction and removed Redd's spleen, along with at least a dozen bladder stones. He spent several days in the hospital. Poor dude! Within a week or two of exiting the hospital, Redd's face swelled up - back to the hospital. What they found was an infected impacted tooth so yet another surgery for our guy, not to mention face drains for 10 days!

He has bounced back quickly, no worse for the wear and has mellowed in the couple of months in his foster home. He gets along with everyone - male, female, senior, pup. He does try to exert his dominance but he responds well to human intervention and is much less bossy. He does still like to chatter at some of the boys if someone moves out of position but otherwise, he is a relaxed, happy guy who loves to go for walks; he is quite taken with sunbathing on the patio as well!
