Otto

  • Male
  • 1-2 years
  • German Shepherd Dog

What an amazing story! Otto was rescued from the shelter as a little puppy and it was immediately determined that he had Hydrocephalus. What is that? Fluid accumulation in the brain. Sounds scary, but it really isn't. This boy is just like any other 2-year-old little boy, but he's very special!

We found a pediatric neurosurgeon who helped save Otto's life by putting a shunt in his brain, which drains any excess fluid into his abdomen. He's an absolutely amazing pup and, outside of being visually impaired (but not blind-he basically sees shadows) and occasional circling, he is just like any other young boy that loves to play and be with his family and canine friends.

Otto's only special needs are he needs to use a harness when walking because we don't want a collar on him due to the drain to his abdomen. He is in a foster home and has fit right in with the other dogs, big and small, as well as cats. He is eager to learn! Otto loves to play with toys and is very affectionate. He deserves to find a home with someone that understands his special needs, but realizes that he's not all that different than any other dog.
