Nelson

  • Female

Nelson was found roaming the streets when a good Samaritan started caring for him. She determined that she was unable to continue to care for him and he was taken to the local shelter to see if his owners would claim him. No one came for him. The good Samaritan learned about Coastal after he had gone to the shelter and quickly called us to help him and to see if we could take him into our care.

When our volunteer went to the shelter to visit him, he was depressed, as if he didn’t believe she was there to rescue him. After taking him to the play area, his true colors began to shine through. Nelson brought the ball, wagged his tail, and was ready to play.

Nelson is a young male. Approximately 1-1 ½ years old. He is very curious and attentive. He gets along with other big dogs (not sure about little dogs or cats yet) He is a little under weight, but after some TLC that should quickly change.

Update from Nelson's Foster Home:

Nelson has blossomed. He has put on weight and has developed quite a personality. He loves to play fetch (with anything) and never tires. His favorite toy is his Kong, which he happily carries around with him everywhere.

His foster family discovered he gets along with cats- the resident cat and him are often found sleeping together on the dog bed. He is also good with other dogs regardless of their size.

He is a very smart dog and understands several commands. Nelson is very-very protective of his people and has taken it upon himself to guard his foster family. He will need a home that understands that with his unknown past he isn’t trusting of all people. He needs a patient family willing to work through his quirks.
