We originally met Merlin in a high kill shelter where we committed to rescuing him. He was subsequently adopted by the general public and promptly returned within two weeks - we were contacted immediately because any shelter return is totally subject to a minimal hold before euthanasia. Why was Merlin returned? We don't know...but we can guess it is because of his age and youthful exuberance. Minimal research into adopting an adolescent German Shepherd will tell you that patience is a virtue and leadership is essential.

Merlin is a gem - he is going to be HUGE - underweight, this guy needs to tip the scales at over 90 lbs. He is absolutely effervescent in his demeanor, loving other dogs and getting a total kick out of humans.

Update 7/25/07:


Merlin is in a foster home and is having the time of his life! He lives with a foster brother who makes him look like he is about 50 pounds, they have decided that they will do everything together, the good, the bad, the funny and the ugly! They love to play in the pond and love to go to dog parks, they do everything together including using the sofa cushion as a toy. Once they realized there were these tiny white things that come out from this pillow, the happier they became until Mom walked out of the bedroom, then I think they realized this was a big no-no. We also found out that Merlin is not a happy camper when it’s time to get his bath . . .he pouts and sits there like this is all torture to him. A very expressive dog this one is.

Merlin loves all kinds of dogs, big, small or medium sized ones. He loves people and is great with children. Merlin’s ideal home is one where he can have a playmate, a partner, a buddy he can hang out with, he is a very playful boy.
