We saved Maggie on her last day at the shelter. The only picture we had to go on was of her cowering in the back of a run through the bars - the only thing we could tell is that she was probably a shepherd with a plush coat. We took our typical leap of faith and after reading the shelter notes, can't believe that this is the same dog. Maggie was turned in for being too shy and the only way the shelter was able to handle her was on a rabies pole (a long stick with a noose on the end) - they couldn' microchip her, they couldn't vaccinate her, they couldn't take her picture. The only way we saw her before we said yes was because a kind hearted shelter volunteer snapped her cowering in the back of the run.

Now Maggie WAS scared when we first introduced her to the other dogs in her foster home. She didn't want a thing to do with them for the first few hours - she was hotly pursued by the resident stud muffin who took a fancy to her and wouldn't give up so she finally came around. She now happily joins in with the others running & playing, stealing toys from her "boyfriend" and just having an all around good time! She met a family with kids the other day and was a bit apprehensive but we are going to continue to expose her to new situations so she becomes an old pro at getting along with everyone. Interestingly, Maggie was immediately drawn to the father, which is very unusual for a timid dog - usually, they are terrified of men. Maggie immediately gave him a kiss on his hand and watched him intently.

We have seen such great strides in Maggie in the short time we have had her! She is housebroken, knows how to sit and loves to cock her head back & forth when humans talk to her. She loves to cuddle and will try to get up and sleep on the bed - we don't recommend this for her until she is firmly ensconced with her new family an knows who is in charge!
