Lucy's family left her behind, an all too often refrain in today's world. When another rescue backed out on her, we had moments to figure out a plan. Lucy was dumped in a high kill shelter that tells us that they have people lined up out the door every single day to leave their animals behind. When an animal's hold period is up at this shelter, so is their time and rescue groups are given literally moments or hours to make a decision.

What a great (and grateful) decision we made! Lucy is very tall for a female, with a beautiful red and black coat. She is completely bomb proof with other dogs (including Chihuahuas), is housebroken, has lived with children, knows her commands, walks beautifully on a leash. Sadly, this is the story we discover time and again in the shelter systems - perfectly wonderful, wonderful dogs are left to an unsure fate - it tears us up to know that if we hadn't stepped in for Lucy, her life would have been snuffed out needlessly.

She is about 4 years young (a wonderful age for shepherds), appears to have been purchased from a breeder at 6 weeks old, has lived with children and small dogs, is housebroken...need we say more? She is currently in a high activity foster home with a number of other dogs, including three crazy adolescents and she is handling it all with sophistication and grace.
