Lancelot

Lance's story is heartbreaking. He was dropped off at a rural high kill animal shelter by his owners, he wore a tattered leather collar and colorful bandanna around his neck. When the owners were asked why they were turning in their family pet, they replied, "he is too old". Marked as an 11 year old dog, lance had literally zero chance of getting out the shelter alive. The family signed over paperwork authorizing the shelter to euthanize Lance if he didn't find a home in 4 days. We became aware of Lancelot's plight via a picture posted on Facebook by a kind person who saw his face at the shelter and wanted him to be saved.

We decided to rescue Lancelot and try to give him a soft place for his remaining years. When we picked Lancelot up, we instantly knew that something was askew. We were not looking at an 11 year old dog....maybe a 5-6 year old dog. We checked Lance's teeth and looked at his body structure.....there was simply no way this boy was a true senior. What we also noticed immediatley was the significant limp on one of his rear legs. Lance visited our vet for xrays and then a specialist to confirm the diagnosis of bone cancer. We were instantly dumbfounded and saddened. However, we have had great success with amputation in the past and we conversed with one of our vets and decided that Lance was a good candidate. His labs showed that the cancer had not spread and all of his other joints were strong and stable. We have moved ahead with the amputation and Lance is in recovery mode now. All we need is a foster home to care for him while he recovers or an adoptive home to take Lance in and give him the life he so deserves! Lance is easy going and loves all that he meets. He is great with other dogs and a joy to be around.

If you can offer Lancelot a soft bed, good food and a warm heart....you just might be the person Lance is looking for.
