Lana

  • Female

Lana has not had the best of luck! Her luck has now changed, as she is in the safe hands of Coastal GS Rescue. Lana has lived her life as a guard dog, chained up to a commercial lot in Los Angeles. To make matters worse, she is a three legged girl who lost her right rear leg as a puppy.

We do not know the details of the amputation, but it seems that it was due to some trauma. At just 2 years old, Lana figured out a way to break out of her chains and leave the area she was supposed to "guard" and unfortunately was hit by a car. So, are you putting this all together? A three legged guard dog, gets hit by a car and injures her one good hind leg. You got it!

The good news is that Lana gets along great on three legs and will have corrective surgery to improve the use of her leg that was injured when she was hit by a car.

We are very happy to have Lana with us. She is a complete joy! Disabled dogs typically do not know that they are impaired. They run, jump, play Frisbee just like the rest of them!

Update 2/23/08:

Lana has had the surgery to help her remaining hind leg properly support her body. Within a very few days of the surgery, we could already see that she can stand up a little straighter! Its pretty amazing how quickly that "leaning tower of Pisa" posture changed!

Lana has been in a foster home with numerous other dogs. She is very friendly with other dogs and an exceptional watch dog - believe us, if there is something going on outside, she will make sure her humans are informed! Lana is housebroken and will also sleep in a crate.

She is very intelligent and picks up just about everything in a nano second. She has a lot of energy and LOVES to go for walks. That missing leg doesn't slow her down one bit. Many 3 legged dogs have a huge drive to GO and Lana is no exception - please don't let that missing leg deter you from meeting a wonderful, wonderful girl!
