Jax was rescued from a high-kill shelter without a minute to spare. This little spitfire is nearly deaf, with a vision impairment, and about a year and a half old, but please don't let his disabilities get in the way of your learning about this great boy! He LOVES life and acts just like any puppy should. He's a very active, happy, 17 pound pup who knows his way around the kennel like a pro and loves to play with toys. He is a real cutie with a personality to match; his disabilities do not seem to slow him down in the slightest. Jax loves his doggy toys- he finds them lying around, picks them up, puts them in a pile on his bed and proceeds to play with them.

Jax has told us that he would do best with a gentle big dog - his favorite foster buddy was a German Shepherd. We have taken him to the eye specialist who thinks he has some vision but not a lot and that there is nothing surgery could do for him to gain any meaningful sight. He sees well enough to take walks through the neighborhood (he sees curbs and still objects just fine) and he can hear high pitched noises, such as a whistle. While walking, volunteers occasionally whistle to let him know they're right there with him. He shows his appreciation with a little gallop in his step.
