Jackson
- Female
Jackson is new to our rescue and just settling into his foster home. He is living with four shepherds - 2 males and 2 females and appears to be doing well. Jackson is learning his place in the pack, as he can be a bit too confident - nipping and bossing with his mouth. His older foster siblings have quickly put him into his place and Jackson is already much more careful in his interactions. He is friendly with other dogs and appears to be excited around all people - children and adults.
Jackson is a active puppy who will need calm and consistent training. Jackson will need obedience training and a patient environment to teach him the house rules – including when and where to potty, what is and IS NOT a toy, etc. It is important to remember that Jackson will likely continue his puppy phase for the first three years of his life. Adopting a puppy is a 10-15 year commitment that requires much time and energy to develop a wonderful canine companion. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!
Update November 5:
Upon closer inspection, it appears Jackson has some adult teeth, which makes him closer to 7 months. He currently weighs 30 lbs - we suspect he won't weigh more than 50 lbs at full size. He's a petite little guy (at least compared to a full shepherd).
Jackson has settled nicely into his foster home. He is a very affectionate, loving and cuddling one minute - then playing for hours with his foster siblings. Jackson is also very intelligent. He is now potty trained and corrects easily. With consistent reinforcement of the house rules, he has settled into a great routine.
Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!
