When we heard about Greta, we just had to help her. She was dumped at a Central Valley shelter because the owner’s new puppy was beating her up. Yes, they chose to dump the dog they’d had for 8 years, whom they’d adopted as a puppy, instead of returning the new puppy. We’ll never understand.
With the situation dire at nearly all of the shelters, we really didn't think she had a chance outside of a rescue intervention. Thanks to a foster home who wanted to save her, this beauty joined the Coastal clan and moved right into a multi-dog home!
Greta is a petite lady (53 pounds) and, while her owner surrender form said that she lived her whole life as an outside dog, she's very amenable to everything new. She loves her crate, now putting herself to bed there when the door is open, and has slid into inside living over the last few days... loving it! She is also working on her leash skills and progressing quite rapidly. Greta is calm in the car and happily sleeps through the night in her crate. We can tell that being in the house is something she thinks isn’t allowed, as she is often found napping on the patio, but comes inside when called.
This beauty gets along with other large dogs (she pays no attention to them), but she's taken a little too much interest in the cat. She might be able to figure out that relationship, but would need some help. If you're looking for a low key beauty with healthy energy, Greta might be your girl!
