  • German Shepherd Dog

Fritz is one of the two Parvo puppies we took in on Friday the 13th (in August, 2021). He went straight to our vet and had perked up a little by Friday afternoon, but we received a late night call that there were some concerns, so we went back to nail biting and hour by hour. On Saturday, with the help of Dr. Whisler, we moved Fritz into the ICU at Advanced Veterinary Internal Medicine. He had a nasogastric feeding tube inserted, continued his IV meds and fluids, had two rounds of plasma, and received round the clock care. At only 4-5 weeks old and under 7 pounds, this virus was extremely hard on his body, but we continued to fight for him... he wasn't giving up.

After 5 days in ICU, he started eating on his own and was ready to leave for a foster home. A couple of days after that and you'd never have known how sick he had been just a few days prior! We don't know Fritz's age, but we're guessing he's around 10-12 weeks old now. He loves meeting new people (anyone is another chance to have a ball thrown for you), can't get enough of his canine foster brother, is x-pen trained, and is 99% potty trained (the only recent accidents he's had have been when he wasn't let out soon enough, but he will tell you when he needs to go outside). Fritz weighed in at 13 pounds on 9/26/21 and is still growing, but his vet doesn't think he'll become an 80 giant... he looks like he'll grow into a smaller sized shepherd.

Fritz is an all around joy, but he is a shepherd puppy and can be pretty mouthy, so would do best with older children. He would also love a home with another playful dog!

You can see a video of Fritz, early in his recovery and still living in critical care, here and 2 weeks later in his foster home here
