Dixie was found wandering the streets of Long Beach. She was emaciated and could barely walk. We think she had been used as a breeding dog and let loose to fend for herself. Thanks to the wonderful care of a foster family, Dixie has gained a lot of strength but still has very little muscle tone due to years of neglect.

We initially thought she was 13+ yrs old but is probably closer to 10 -11 ... she may just seem older because she obviously didn't have a great life prior to rescue. But, she is very happy now to be in a loving foster home!

Dixie does ok with other dogs (in the right environment) but prefers to be alone. Let's just say she tolerates them but doesn't love to interact. She enjoys people and does great with her foster's teenage daughters. Dixie's ideal forever home would be a calm, quiet one where she can have a warm bed and lots of love.

Her foster mom reports Dixie is "getting stronger and more active! Love to see her tail wagging when our two daughters walk in the room!"
