Champ was rescued from a strawberry field after being abandoned by the only family that he ever knew. He kept coming back to the place he was dumped every night. A very kind lady noticed him and began feeding him, but couldn't catch him. Unfortunately, he just didn't trust people anymore so he would let you get close, but not put a leash on him. She looked for notices regarding a lost dog, but never found anything. She contacted Coastal and one of our fabulous volunteers tried to catch him for days and eventually had to set a trap. Once he was safe, he just wanted to sleep, sleep, sleep as he was very tired having to fend for himself.
Champ takes a little time to warm up to people he doesn't know, but once he does, he's perfectly fine and an excellent dog. He has thrived in his foster home and can be crated or left out inside the house without any issues. He cannot be left outside alone as he is very agile and could easily jump the fence. He's potty trained and is easy to walk on a leash. He gets nervous in the car so he's not a big fan of car rides, but that's understandable considering his past. He's come a long way with this and with repeated exposure should be fine.
Champ will make an excellent dog to someone that has a little bit of patience and a lot of love to share. Someone that's very active to take him for long walks or runs would be a dream come true!
