Bridget
- Female
Bridget is a 6 month old dutch shepherd pup who was brought into an LA shelter by her "owner". The owner reported that she was hit by a car. Bridget is in pain and unable to use her hind legs. We do not know what is broken or what medical care she needs. But, in order to help her, we need your help! We can not rescue these special needs cases without sponsors and a foster home.
As you can see, this poor puppy is laying in a steel crate at the shelter. Imagine being helpless, scare, in pain and unable to walk! How could anyone just leave a puppy in this condition in a high kill shelter? This is no way for a little one's life to end. Can you help Bridget get out of the shelter and get the medical care she needs?
Update 11/21/10
The shelter xrayed her and we were able to send the xrays to our orthopedic surgeon. We just got the news that we feared. Both of her femoral heads are fractured. She will need a double femoral head ostectomy (FHO). She may also needs some other stabilization but we won't know until she sees the specialist.
On a wing and a prayer, we are picking Bridget up from the shelter today and hoping beyond hope that we can raise the funds for her surgery. Can you help us with this?
She will go to the surgeon on Tuesday and we will have a clear idea of the cost and the surgery needed. At this point, we believe her surgery will likely run at least $2000.
Update 11/28/10
Bridget has had her surgeries and BOTH hips were done at once. This little survivor is already walking (slowly) on all fours and putting full weight on the back end. She is on crate rest, moderate exercise (just walking to go potty) and being kept quiet in her foster home. She is an affectionate, loving little gal. We think that she is closer to perhaps 8 - 10 mos old now and she will be a medium size lady at maturity. She is in a home with many other dogs, some young, some old and she mixes in quite well. She is more or less housebroken now and will sleep in a crate if asked to.
Bridget is going to be able to lead a normal life once her wounds heal. She may not be able to do marathons but surely she will be able to keep up with an active family and live a long pain free life!
