Meika has been adopted! 05-05-2007

Female about 0 old.

Meika, 12 months old, loves people, loves to play with other dogs and the Happiest Girl on Earth!

Meika was found running free in San Diego, and clearly she’s been on her own for a few months. Her pads were a bit worn, her immune system was shot, her coat was in poor shape, the tip of her ears are of a golden brown which indicates being in the sun and no shelter . . . . . and yet, she is the Happiest Girl on Earth. Meika loves people of all sizes; all she wants to do is give away a ton of kisses. She also has this habit of putting her head in between your knees, not because she’s afraid but because it feels good!

Meika is just learning about toys, she loves to retrieve them (well, actually it’s more like when she feels like it), she is an incredibly affectionate girl and she is happiest when she gets to hang out with the pack. The pictures that were taken of her was the day she arrived at the shelter, as you can tell her coat is not in the best shape, quite thin and not as healthy. She loved to give kisses to the rest of the dogs at the shelter, male and female, did a ton of play bowing to encourage the rest to play with her, although when she was given time to play with a very strong dog and muscular dog, she clearly was intimidated and was scared by the other dogs’ assertiveness. She was being body slammed and this got her all confused, you can see it in her eyes that she was never exposed to assertive dog behavior and the body slamming hurt her, she didn’t fight back all she did was snap at her and we stopped the play immediately. Soon after on she went licking faces of the rest of the dogs, happy as pie!

Meika rides in the car like a champ, and she will also give you little kisses on the back of your head or the tip of your ears.

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
