Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

Azalea has been adopted! 03-01-2022

Female German Shepherd Dog /Belgian Shepherd Malinois mix about 2-3 months old. Gets along with other dogs.

Azalea is one of nine puppies born to a Belgian Malinois mother and a German Shepherd mix father. The mother gave birth to her puppies under an old RV right before a snow storm. A good hearted Samaritan rescued mom and pups and took them home. The puppies' mom is still in Anza with her rescuer. The rescuer asked Coastal German Shepherd to help place the puppies and find them good homes. We were happy to help.

If you are looking for the dog of a lifetime, here she is. You should probably watch the trailer for the movie "Dog" first, because that's your future.

Azalea is exactly the dog you'd expect a Belgian Malinois and GSD combo to be: desperate to please, but stubborn. Smart, but possibly smarter than you. Gorgeous. Yeah, just gorgeous. She'll turn heads for sure.

Azalea is a Velcro dog. She wants to be with you as much as possible though she is comfortable in a crate or pen while you work. She loves to be in your lap and will look to you to see what's next.

She learns quickly. She knows the basics and is learning heel and touch. She's into training and you can see the gears turn in her head during each training session.

Azalea has a great foundation, but will need a family that can put in the work in or she will put you to the test. She'd be best in a home that has Malinois or other working dog experience. If you have this type of home, Azalea is very food and praise motivated. She is not particularly mouthy. She is high energy and requires frequent exercise breaks. She would not be ok with being in a crate all day with a lunch break. (Unless you hate your crate and furniture.). She will need extra socializing because she is naturally cautious when seeing new things.

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
