Jasper is available ( Updated 07-30-2021 )
Jasper is what we call a "last second save.” As horrible as this sounds, there is no easy way to say it- we regularly get emails that say something along the lines of "this dog will be euthanized in 2 hours if no rescue commitment" and over time, as rescuers, we learn to filter out the words and focus on the facts surrounding the individual dog coupled with the current capacity within the rescue. For Jasper, the facts were: very young dog, very scared at the shelter, shelter had not been able to handle him, volunteers at the shelter had been able to sit at the front of his kennel and give treats. We knew there was hope for him given his age and the fact that in a short period of time volunteers had been able to gain just a teeny bit of trust. At the time of the email, our capacity within the rescue was FULL. Summer vacations had started, kids are out of school and boarding options diminish. As fate would have it, the very day the email arrived, we had a dog get adopted and therefore an open kennel! We took a shot on Jasper and said YES to rescuing him within the 2 hour time frame. One of our trusted volunteer transporters raced to a far flung shelter and picked up Jasper. As expected, Jasper was very scared, confused and bewildered. Over the course of two weeks that Jasper has been with us, we are so happy to say that this boy is now HAPPY! He sits for treats. He wags his tail when you approach his kennel. He goes on walks and takes in the blue sky and green grass around him! He is now ready to start his new life with a family that understands that he has had a rough start and will give him time and structure as he adjusts and learns new things. He is super eager to please, very food motivated and super smart- not to mention gorgeous!
If Jasper sounds like your kinda guy and you think you would be a fit for him, please fill out the adoption application! We would love to talk to you about Jasper!
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
