Shelby has been adopted! 11-20-2013

Female German Shepherd Dog about 1-2 years old. Good with kids. Gets along with other dogs.

Shelby is a perfect mix of gentle and calm yet active and fun! About 4 years old, she's a great age for good times yet she can appreciate quiet relaxation. Shelby is in a foster home with other dogs; she walks nicely on a leash and enjoys a brisk walk (even a jog or hike!) Shelby as zero issues with other dogs -- big or small -- and we believe she'd be ok with cats (she has been on hikes and observed squirrels and bunnies with zero interest; she has no prey drive).

Shelby is completely trustworthy in her foster home (doesn't need to be crated) and hangs out with her two foster brothers while 'mom' is at work. She's shown no interest in getting on furniture and loves her favorite dog bed next to her foster mom's bed -- which is where she sleeps all night. Shelby is responsive to correction and is attentive to her person. She likes to 'talk' when she gets excited (usually around dinnertime or when you get home) but we've never heard her bark.

Her favorite thing to do is to play with her toys; she's particularly fond of plush squeaky toys. She gets pure joy out of tossing them around and catching them!

Shelby is a sweet girl who would fit into just about any type of home although we wouldn't suggest homes with young children. Tiny humans tend to make her nervous; she becomes a little skittish around sudden movements and wants to run/hide.

Shelby is an easy-keeper and would make an excellent companion for a single person or family looking for a calm yet active dog! We would love to place Shelby in a home with another well-balanced dog but she would likely do just fine as a solo dog too (though she really does enjoy her doggie friends).

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
