Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

Camus has been adopted! 01-01-2006

Female about 0 old.

Just when we were ready to give up, Camus found himself a guardian angel!

When we first saw Camus in a San Diego shelter, all we wanted to do was help him. This sad boy was dumped on Fiesta Island in San Diego during the hottest part of the summer with no food or fresh water.
He was left to starve to death. Our volunteer went to meet Camus, and found this poor old boy ailing beyond the financial resources of our rescue.
Its a hard and unfortunate fact that we don't have enough people to sponsor dogs so we can bring in very old dogs with serious problems. Camus has many problems, he has blood in his stool, skin tags which need to be removed (quite large),
he has some neurological problems and of course he has never been neutered. His skin is raw all over his body from long term inflamation. With tears in her eyes our volunteer walked away from the shelter.

Then a miracle happened! On Monday morning, Camus' guardian angel came to help him! And by another stroke of luck, we found Camus was still safe in the shelter. We plan to bring him under our wing by the end of this week,
and will whisk him off to a vet to see how we can help him. We know that even if he's very sick, we can still give him some happy days with fresh air, sunshine and a burger or two. And if his good luck holds, maybe he'll get well and find a forever home. Thank you Lyn, for sponsoring Camus! We wish this was how the story played out every time a dog needed help!

UPDATE 8/13/2006 Camus is safe with Coastal and even attended his first adoption event in San Juan Capistrano on August 13th!!!!
When we first met Camus outside of the shelter, we were bowled over by his positive attitude and strong energy. Even stinky, hairless and dirty, he had a presence about him.

He spent two days with our vet and got a complete evaluation - he has a yeast and skin infection that is being treated but his bloodwork is pretty good - he's anemic but its not unusual given the severe flea dermatitis that he has. Camus does have arthritis in his lower spine and hips but after just a few days on pain management, he is getting around more comfortably.
Originally listed by the shelter as a 12 year old dog, once cleaned up and well fed, it appears that Camus is probably only 8 years old! His foster mom reports that he is quite agreeable and enjoys a mild game of chase me with one of his foster sisters! Camus has a mild personality and gets along with everyone. We'll post more updates as he gains even more strength!

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
