Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

Mimi has been adopted! 04-23-2007

Female about 0 old.

Mimi was found in a dirt lot chained to a lead pipe...our first encounter with her included numerous baths to rinse the smell, dirt and crud out of her coat. Mimi has been in a wonderful foster home for nearly 2 months, living with 2 adults, 3 teenagers, a Coastal GSR dog Ginger, and our older cat (kind of). In a short time, she has regained her health, gained weight, grown a new coat of beautiful fur, and learned to enjoy life as an indoor pampered pet and family member. She has learned to sit, come, drop, crate, go potty, is housebroken, and walks nicely on a leash.

Mimi's greatest attribute is her serenity and calm demeanor in every situation. She is happy to meet new people, including the postman, and loves to explore new situations. She and Ginger get along fine. Mimi spent a weekend with another volunteer and played for 3 days nonstop with her English Pointer mix female dog. Mimi has seen the cat and not had any reaction to her. They don't cross paths because the cat stays mainly in their daughters' rooms and Mimi is mostly downstairs. Despite her tranquil nature, she has an incredible ball drive and will play for hours! She loves her toys and is very playful and fun.

Mimi does like to have a bit of a growl at other dogs, although she is increasingly tolerant as she adjusts to her new life. She seems to be an alpha, and she had a slow introduction to the other dog she visited. We think that group obedience classes would improve her social skills with other dogs. She is remarkably easy to train with basic commands. She isn't perfect yet with all of the commands, but we have been consistently amazed at what an intelligent dog she is. She still needs to gain more weight and her skin/fur will continue to improve with regular baths and good nutrition. Mimi is tranquil, playful, beautiful and smart. She will be a wonderful family member.

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
