Princess has been adopted! 12-04-2010
Princess used to live in a warehouse district in downtown LA next to my wife's work. One Monday morning they came in and saw that her lower lip had been torn almost completely free from her face by a pit-bull that lived on the same property. She looked very sick but the owners said the attack had just happened that morning and that they were going to bring her to the vet immediately after work. When they came in the next morning and Princess was still alone in the side yard they convinced the owner to give them Princess (permanently) and rushed her to the Yorba Regional Animal Hospital. The vet trip brought two major things to light. First, the wound had at least three days of infection and rot in it if not more. Second, her bowels were impacted with so much rock and dirt that it made it hard to see the fact that she had been bred and was pregnant. Princess went into surgery on her face three times before they could get rid of all the dead tissue and get her mouth to hold together long enough to heal properly. The anesthesia for the surgeries and even one of the antibiotics needed to fight the infection can all cause birth defects so the pregnancy had to be ended when she was eventually spayed. Princess is a spectacularly friendly dog who spent her first day at the vet, infected, bleeding, sick and dehydrated, trying her hardest to sniff and lick each of the vets and vet techs that were working on her. We have covered all her costs and have found here a place to stay while she recovers since we live in an apartment but her current home can only be a short term thing and we need a new place for her to stay within the next week or two.
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
