Berry has been adopted! 12-05-2010
Berry is as sweet as a juicy Blackberry! Berry was hit by a car in front of her home. Her owners couldn't afford any medical care other than minimal pain medications. Berry sat for a few weeks with her leg swelling to three times it's normal size when Berry's owners finally decided to do the humane thing and had her picked up by Animal Control to be euthanized. Thankfully, we were able to hear about Berry's plight and were able to work with animal control to get her into our care. Berry has mulitple broken bones and needs significant orthopedic surgery. Not only does she have a femur that is broken in two places, she has a two pelvic fractures. After considering every possible option, our trusty veterinarians had to amputate Berry's leg. She is currently on crate rest in order for her fractures to heal, but is a typical 6 month old puppy in every other way. She has quickly learned how to operate on 3 legs and is extremely sweet and loveable. She is a crowd pleaser and gets along with everyone including cats! Berry is well into her recovery and is ready to find a family who can see that her 3 legs give her character and add to the charm that is Berry!
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
