Coco has been adopted! 05-13-2017
Coco is a 3 year old Shih Tzu who was found running in the middle of rush hour traffic. A wonderful Coastal adopter saw her and rushed to get her off the street so she wouldn't be hit by a car! Coco was a stinky, matted mess who appeared to have been on her own for a while or had little care in her previous home.
Coco didn't have full range of motion in her back legs and her tail was matted to her hind quarters. Immediately, she was rushed to the vet for examination. According to the DVM, it was the worst case she had ever seen. Coco had a microchip, so they attempted to contact the registered owners and were able to get a hold of one person, who said his parents were the owners and that the dog had only been missing for a week. He then added that he hadn't personally seen the dog for almost a year. The registered owners have not responded to the numerous calls and emails and their children have told them the people who found Coco were trying to reach them. Coco's angels contacted Coastal and asked us to help find this sweetie the perfect forever family, who will love and protect her for many years to come.
After a complete vet check, they concluded that it took close to a year for her to get this bad. The exam revealed that someone tried to remove the mats themselves but ended up cutting Coco in several places, making a 2" laceration on her neck that they tried to glue shut. She had to be placed under general anesthesia to remove the glue, repair the laceration, and use a surgical scalpel to remove the rest of the mats.
Coco is an absolute sweetheart with the cutest underbite you have ever seen. She seems to be crate trained, gets along with other dogs, older children, and just wants to be your shadow. If you are looking for a petite cutie who deserves lots of love, please consider making Coco a member of your family.
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $300 and the adoption donation for puppies is $400 - $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
