Mia has been adopted! 06-22-2008

Female about 1-2 years old. Good with kids. Gets along with other dogs.

Mia has had a very frightening life. She has come close to losing her life three times and we are very happy to say that we are turning that around for her.

Here is Mia's life timeline:

*dumped at a county shelter at 3 days old

*adopted from the county shelter only to end up tied to a tree in a backyard

*returned to the county shelter at 8 weeks old

*adopted from the county shelter only to be tossed into a backyard and neglected

*returned to the county shelter at 1 year old

*adopted from the county shelter only to be neglected and abandoned in a yard

*picked up on the streets of LA at 18 months old and taken back to the county animal shelter

This poor girl has grown up in the county shelter system. When we heard her plight, we knew we had to save her. Her days were limited and she was due to be euthanized at any minute. We did not have the space nor the funds to bring her in, but with the help of some kind hearted LA rescuers, we all pulled together and got her to safety. Mia is with us now and will NEVER end up in a high kill animal shelter again.

For all that she has been through, Mia is surprisingly steady and calm. She is reserved but warms up so very quickly. She would love a home with another dog, as the dogs are teaching her that this world does not have to be so cruel, there are good people that will care for her. Mia is a kind hearted, good natured girl who will be an excellent companion to the person that earns the right to share their life with this beautiful girl.

Update from Mia's Foster Family, early June:

Mia is living proof that good things come in small packages! At 15 months old, she only weighs about 30lbs! As you read from her bio above, she has been in and out of the local shelters 3 times, only to be picked up by animal control for a fourth in LA as a stray! This, of course, is no fault of her own, but rather due to her uncaring and irresponsible previous owners. For all she's been through in her short life, Mia has no issues and is ready to take on the world!

Mia is kid and adult friendly and just loves other dogs, both male and female! She is being fostered with 2 large male GSD's (110lbs and 75lbs) and 2 male rescue cats. She is doing great with the GSD's and her foster parents are working through the "kitty introductions." Also, she has been very friendly and loving with the neighbor kids, ages 3, 5, 8, and 11. Mia would make a great addition to any family!

Also, did I mention that she is crate trained and sleeps through the night?!?! Ahhh, what a relief! However, once her foster family is up for the day, she is up and ready to play! She is pretty much house broken too! We only had one accident since she's been at our home and have had no issues since! Awesome!

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
